Stunning plant Selmo


On the table as it’s sitting I’d have assumed it was at least five plants. Big girl!!

this is not my plant but i went to a friend's house to get some bromileads and i spotted this guy on a palm tree...i counted over 30 spikes!!!!!

i have to go back in a couple weeks because i cannot imagine what this display must be like!

My best "specimen" at this point. I got it (them) from a neighbor who has the most incredible collection. Probably 40 or more (seriously!) Bloomed like gangbusters. Also have a L. Pacavia that has five sheaths and is getting huge....BLC Taiwan Chief Wine "Van Gogh" that has three inflorescences with five flowers (three currently open(ing) and two to come.

It's definitely Den speciosum time (and also for relatives) Here is Den. speciosum var. hillii x Den gracilicaule. Sort of a cross between a St. Bernard and a Chihuahua .. Lots of flowers on a semi-reasonable sized plant... to my eyes, looks pretty much like a Den speciosum... Den. speciosum var. hillii becomes a beast, Den. gracilicaule is a miniature. I have pretty much given up repotting this, and the Den speciosums... as they outgrow the pot, when there is no more room for roots in the pot, they just start sending roots upward (birds-nest roots) I suspect that's what happens in nature... Den. speciosum is basically a lithophyte - grows on rocks (nickname "rock lily") with roots going down into crevices to find water, organic matter, and coolness, once it runs out of space in the cracks and crevices, sends roots upward to capture detritus.

Here are my biggest, 3 genera:

- Angraecum Veitchii, leaves are 55-60cm, 120cm tall
- Phragmipedium longifolium, the biggest growth has leaves of 50cm
- NoID Phal, leaves are 30cm, flowers 13cm wide
