I'd like to clarify, too. I've made a couple of posts here, indicating that I'd be interested, but there were limits to the type of projects that I could participate in. I'm just one member out of many here, so please go with whatever the majority seems interested in. When -- or if -- a plant or type of growing project is chosen, I'll decide at that time if I can or cannot participate, but I won't have any hard feelings either way.

Phrag schlimmii is pretty easy to grow. It is an intermediate grower. It is very common as far as Phrags are concerned. It is attractive in and out of flower. It is not a mini, but it is small to medium sized.

Just making a suggestion if you guys were interested in setting up a project.

The species does offer enough of a challenge to warrant it as a project plant.

Don't do flasking/deflasking projects, the task can be challenging, particularly if people unknowingly decide on getting oddballs that start their life as tiny vines. It takes some skill to figure it out. It's not something beginners typically can pick up without mastering other skills. Also, large scale losses can and does happen. These kinds of events can be severely daunting, especially for those who are new to the hobby. Cost of the flask is also a factor. They can be quite pricey depending on what you're getting.

I'm definitely in. I saw the old threads and thought they looked really fun. Probably the most important thing is to just do a poll and go with it since I'm sure there's not going to be an ideal plant for everyone. I'm fine with whatever.

Ugh guys! I posted months ago that I am willing to do the work to organize a project if people want in!!! T must have been missed! If we need an organizer, I have never done a project but Am willing and i would love to do it too!!!

Ok I was so excited about seeing talks of projects I responded before skimming things over!

I know there was project talk in the about orchidboard? Board? You know what I'm talking about hopefully! People also expressed interest there too!

I REALLY wanted to a deflasking project personally BUT, we can do anything and I find it funny...as someone willing to organize and participate in multiple projects, why spend so much time trying to find something that fits for everyone and instead just do multiple projects?! I would enjoy it! I could tip my toe back into s/h, try out my first phrag maybe? Arent they more of water lovers??? Sounds like a good possibility for s/h maybe? Let's just do multiples if we want! We could choose one species project if we want to stick to past years, one growing methods project like s/h and maybe even another one!

I feel like one possible problem for lack of people to do projects and difficulty organizing projects was just that, finding something everyone liked or wanted to do. That takes time and if some want to do a project but don't want to do that species, well then, we are losing people who are interested! By doing a few then everyone hopefully who wants to can at least participate in one of them and we skip all the trying to come to a decision! Can't we do a multiple question poll that asks like, which species would you be interested in growing? Which growing method would you be interested in trying? So on so forth? Let's just try and do a couple!

And frankly, I don't know why we all have to do the same plant! When I first saw "member projects" I thought how great is that??! So educational! think about all the variety you can learn from others instead of having to do it all yourself? So I kinda imagined them going something like this, we break off into like "partners" or small groups and each group grows the same or similar plants for whatever we are doing with them and then we compare notes and we learn about how all sorts of plants handled something like deflasking or the transition to s/h instead of just one plant. People then still have someone or a couple of ppl to compare notes with about THEIR species and then we share our "updates" or "data" with each other!

I don't know, from a scientists mind, I think that is an amazing wealth of knowledge! Maybe we come to find out that phals transition easily to s/h with this and this but that dendrobium blah blah really struggles. does that make any sense!? I hope so! The thought of all doing the same plant never even occurred to me and when I heard that's what they normally were I could see the benefits, yes, but it also didn't sound super exciting exactly because I was worried about ugh, what if I don't like the species they pick? Then I either suck it up just to be a part of something social with orchid lovers or I don't participate...No offense anyone!!!!!

Let me be clear, whoever came up with and put forth the effort to organize past projects is an AMAZING and CREATIVE individual!!! SUCH a smart and great idea!!! My ideas never would even come into my head if it wasn't for whoever did and kept past projects running!

I just feel like giving people the freedom to choose like, their top two genres and then from their, we break into equal groups and give each group the option to come to their own decision on plants is something that, not only saves the organizer time and makes doing projects easier but also makes projects exciting and more inclusive! And we all get to learn so much more! I also think working in smaller "teams" will allow people on the board to build some new friendships actually which is great!

BUT THAT was just kinda what I imagined when I saw "member projects"! By no means do you need to agree with my opinions! I'll still organize a project or two if we don't use my ideas!! I just wanted to share my perspective on this conversation! I mean, look at how quickly the excitement that initially existed on this board diminished until nothing?! I think we keep the excitement up and give people the freedom to choose their plants between small groups that want to do the same Genera! Heck! They could even choose their own growing methods too! It STILL would be educational and helpful, maybe just not as much common ground between us all but still educational! It would be fun to make comparisons between different generas in a certain growing method though! At least to me!

Oh AND! Someday we could always do like product tests too! Everyone starts with a rescue grocery store phal they buy locally and we do groups where each group uses a different supplement like a kelp extract and super thrive. Or plastic baskets versus wooden baskets versus pots for a different orchid! My mind was FLOODED with different ideas the first time I saw "members projects"! Something like these would probably be helpful to fellow beginners especially. We can't all afford to test out EVERY product and it takes time to do and learn! I feel getting info like this would be a great source for newbies to build their OWN opinions on different products!

Get people together and figure out what you guys want to do for a project plant. I don't recommend doing flasks.

I was essentially trying to respark interest in this thread since it appeared that there was some interest and work that had already gone into that. I have organized a rupic laeliea project a few years ago, but also don’t have time to do all of that this year.
