There go some more nice ones.... (Just makes my wish list that much longer! ) I wish Canada had more vendors, because there are so many nice ones in EU+USA that just aren't available up there (I'm thinking of Lycaste aromatica and Soph violacea for example)

Sue- Out of curiousity, the sizes you find on Orchidwiz, are they with or without the spikes?? Because 2-18" is a huge huge difference for the same plant!

Those numbers are for the plant alone, they have the spike sizes listed separately.

I'm thinking when there's such a large difference in sizes, they're taking into account what the plant will eventually grow to if given the proper care.

Devil's advocate

what about assuming we ALL are very very very bad with our chids and will never ever provide them with the proper care they need... then they wwill stay in the small size range.... and many of them will be fine for the project

Sounds like a perfectly logical justification!!

I found another nice plant while 'window shopping' on Großräschener Orchideen
Dendrobium trigonopus
Here's some pics of the entire plant:Den trigonopus

Can someone check Canada and US availability? I've had a long long day working on my thesis (almost done! yay!)

I just noticed that this is post 300!!!!! Since I joined in October my collection went from 3 to 12, and will grow some more thanks to the project plant and travel companions!

I don't see Dendrobium trigonopus in the US or in Canada

Keep up the good work on your thesis...

How scary is it that what you say makes perfect sense?

Ok.... so I've compiled a list of plants that are available in the US, Europe and Canada, that meet the criteria ( I think) and that we haven't listed yet (I think again). I started from the Canadian sites and went from there, since... well... there are so few of them

I was trying not to list species that we haven't used yet, and I had to leave at some point to get chinese food, since I hadn't eaten all day, so... if I'm wrong, I'm sorry .

I figure SOME of these should put us over 20

Cattleya skinneri: intermediate to hot growing (but it says intermediate!), 5.5inches long, fragrant, dry winter rest

Dendrobium amethystoglossum: intermediate, winter rest, fragrant..... I can't figure out how tall it is. Kinda tired

Anguloa uniflora: Bizarrare! intermediate, fragrant, grows to a max of 12"

Bifrenaria tyrianthina: Also kind of weird, intermediate, fragrant, short

Angraecum didieri: mini, intermediate, fragrant, HUGE flower for plant size

Angraecum elephantinum: mini to small sized, intermediate, winter bloomers

Bulbophyllum ambrosia: small, cool to hot, fragrant, also called "The Sweet-Smelling Bulbophyllum"!

Bulbophyllum sumatranum: intermediate, small, shaded

Dendrobium tortile: hot to cool, fragrant, small to medium sized, winter rest

Dendrobium loddigesii: intermediate, mini, fragrant

Dendrobium rigidum: mini, intermediate (Andy's says so!) fragrant

Dendrobium tetragonum: intermediate, fragrant, might be too tall, hard to say

Dendrochilum uncatum: small, hot to cool, fragrant

Dracula platycrater: small, intermediate .....pointy

Epidendrum nocturnum: intermediate, fragrant, might be too tall

Gongora armeniaca: intermediate, small, fragrant

Sigmatostalix graminea: mini, intermediate, only one hit in europe :P

Sigmatostalix picta: hot to cool, mini

Tired now. I'll be a zombie on the chat tonight

interesting collection of nice plants

I only have to add that Cattleya skinneri and Epidendrum nocturnum can be quite large... one of my C. skinneri is > 40 cm tall, while the other is just 20 cm...

Epid nocturnum is one I know from south america and (at least in the wild) can be as large as 50 cm...

Gongora armeniaca, as well as all Gongoras, is just a wonderfull plant... however, it could be problematic for many members, as it need to be grown in baskets to allow the inflorescences grow through them. These inflorescences will grow to up to 30 cm, for which the plant would need a lot of space above and below the basket... just my

for the other plants... they are really cool plants love them...
