Dave, I agree. I am not worried about the low temps as much as the high. A plant that is not at least heat tolerant would have to be grown indoors here for at least 6 mos of the year. Our daily highs are above 80 for10 months out of the year and at or above 90 3 months out of the year. I am talking in the shade. I have never grown orchids inside the house before. The humidity in here is too dry for my flowering plants. Phals drop buds in here as it is. Hopefully they will pick an extremely hardy plant. One that thrives in cooler temps but can tolerate some heat, too.

This is really why we want something that is 'in the middle' - i.e. intermediate - as far as temps go. With our summer high temps rarely getting out of the 70s here, warm growers are a problem.

I think the problems really come in with how cold, cool, intermediate, warm, hot are interpreted. Some people/nurseries use minimum temps, others use 'optimal' temps... I think Adam is right and we should talk about actual temperatures - and then try to find something that is very temperature tolerant!

We have to stick with Intermediate, meaning no hot-warm or cool/cold or we'll have members nervous about spending money (totally understandable) on something that may not work for them. Gotta keep it fair for all involved.

I personally would LOVE to be able to include most of the warm growers but we can't do that...so I add them to my personal list and look to them as future purchases.

Well. . .I am already up to two of the little regular ones. One is mounted and the other is on order and on the way. I'd like to try to pot it in the Japanese style.

But I want a variegated one and one of the bean form and I really like the ones with tiger strips, so what is that to get started? Five?

I found another orchid I'd like to add, if that's ok! I don't really know if it's a good possible project plant, but I really like this one. I read that it can take temps from the low 30's to high 90's.

That's lovely and at first I was excited about adding it to the list...but...Orchidwiz says it gets large...and...it's an endangered species. I won't get any orchid that is considered endangered unless I know for sure it's been cultivated and not taken from the earth:
