The flowers are all gone now; they lasted about 2 weeks. Water well and you will be rewarded. It recovered from rootless to blooming, so I would consider it quite vigorous in terms of growth. Lots of sun or part shade, it doesn't mind!
Wow wow wow! Gorgeous!!! <3

theloyalplum--gorgeous. Are you going to pollinate some of the flowers to try to get the 'vanilla' pod?

Ooooh, I might try that! Does it shorten the bloom life like phals?

Thanks guys! I didn't pollinate because... I have enough vanilla extract already! I made nearly a gallon of it last year for stocking stuffers and still have a pint each of regular and tahitian vanilla...

I've knocked off pollen on accident and it caused the flower to fade faster, so yes, probably, but it will turn into a pod if you do it properly. I don't think you'll mind since they only last a couple weeks anyways.

It's potted with charcoal and sphagnum moss in a net pot. The moss has pretty much gone away for the most part over the past year, so it gets the same treatment a mount does.

Here's mine I got it from Seattle Orchid in July of 2014. There's a pic of when I first got it on my profile somewhere under my orchids. For the first year I didn't give it nearly enough light and rotted out all its roots by keeping the sphag too wet. I moved it to an East facing window about a year ago where it got several hours of direct sun and it went crazy putting out new growths, last fall I changed the sphag because it had gotten pretty nasty. Was delighted when I noticed the first signs of flowering this winter and finally...blooms! Several more buds forming nicely and signs of a couple more tiny little new spikes starting <3

Here's mine. It's hanging in a mock orange tree in our kitchen. 8 buds about to pop.

Looking good Michaeljrdn13, you have a lot of buds. When and where did you get it? Are you using bark?

I bought it from J&L. It is currently in bark, but after blooming I plan to mount it. The mock orange will go outside in late may, and the "Totes" will go into the greenhouse after mounting.
