Default Project 2 (Summer 2006) - Sign Up & Suggestions

As most of you know, a few of us have purchased the same plant and will be documenting it's progress in each of our different growing conditions.
It was a lot of fun, and a learning experience just choosing which plant has a chance of working for all of us...
wouldn't it be wonderful if we could get more people involved to include members from other parts of the world?
I would love to set a date, say a few months from now, and spend the time until then choosing a plant that would be available to all involved.

We would have to fine tune the details, so I'm just throwing this thought out there...

would anybody else like to be involved in our next growing project? I've added a poll to this thread...please take a second to vote in the poll.

If you choose to be involved, please post a short message telling us where you are located and what type of 'chid you may be interested in.

Hope to see lots of people involved in this...it'll be a blast!

I'm ALL for excuses to buy new orchids and I think it's a great idea for lots of us to start out with the same plant - we will all be able to chat about experiences and learn things... cool!

Default International orchid project

Sooo, you can count me in...always looking for another orchid to obtain and grow. I am a Pleurothallist (I heard that was the official term these days), but I am up for just about anything. I guess, since Pleuros have a reputation for being ornery, we can steer clear of that. What about something like an Angraecum or Jumellia or a Dendrobium aphyllum?

Any other suggestions from anyone else?

Great!

The people involved in the current project really enjoyed spending time together, choosing and discussing plants, and why they would or wouldn't work for each of us. I hope many more people decide to jump in here...it's a wonderful way to make new friends and learn something about orchids in the process.

Once we get a take on how many people would be interested, we can start figuring out which plant is available to all of us without having to pay for importing fees.

If and when this does happen, I suggest to those participating that they search the web for a plant they would like to have...and then, find the same plant at a vendor in Canada, or whatever other countries will be taking part in the project. The folks in the other countries, will have to find it at a US vendor in addition to their own.

I think if we all do that for 3 plants, we should be able to then narrow it down to the one we agree upon.

Once the time comes, we'll all discuss what the parameters should be. We have to take temperatures into account so the first parameter needs to be set at "Intermediate"...from there, we can all negotiate the rest

We will also be taking our time to set up this project, I've set this poll to be open for 30 days. At that time, we'll have a better idea of how to proceed.

So take some time, browse the net, make notes. save web site pages so you can post them when the time comes. Even armed with all that information, when the time comes to decide...it'll be chaos!

Fun, exciting, wonderful chaos

Happy hunting.

I like the Angraecum idea. Or some small Paph species or hybrid.

I like this one! Now, the next step is for you to find it in a US vendor's site AND a Canadian one. If any other countries join in, you'll have to add that to the list

Never said it's be easy...but it sure will be fun

Piping Rock Orchids - Glen Decker has it for just under $50. I was / am going to buy it on a field trip next month with Aaron. I would LOVE for this one to become a group project one, but I'm getting it anyway LOL!!!!!
PRO has the best prices in this orchid that I have seen. I have seen larger specimens for $200!!!!

If you're already going to have it...it's off the list.

I would wait to buy it if it's going to be the project orchid. You have a few weeks to decide. Right Aaron?! :c)
