My suggestions would be slippers or phals, warm growing. the only draw back is the seedlings might take a while(cause thats what i can handle)

lol @ sue with the peoys.

It might even be more. Who knows. Sam at orchid inn said the paph multi-floral seedlings (mainly roth and sand hybrids) that I got from him would take about 3-4 years. Right now the biggest leaf on each run anywhere in between 5"-7". And they're growing notoriously slow. =\

but ok here are my suggestions

paph species
1)paph philippinense var. alba
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...lr%3D%26sa%3DN

2)paph philippinense var. roebellenii
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...l%3Den%26lr%3D

paph hybrids
1)paph lyro black hawk
http://www.parksideorchids.com/image...lwk%20%20W.jpg

Obviously I'm super biased on the paphs. I love philippinense and figured it would be a good choice because it's not that difficult to cultivate (or so I've been told). And I picked the lyro black hawk because its a compact multi-floral paph.

Phal species
1)Phal. Schilleriana var. purpurea

Now that I see this picture from orchid web. Mine may be a mistagged var. purpurea

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...lr%3D%26sa%3DG

This is because I don't have one. And I fell in love with the regular variety. It smell likes roses with a tinge of cotton candy! Yummy

Default We've got a little tiny problem...

there are 14 YES votes in the poll, but only 9 posts, so we have 5 people that are interested but we don't now who they are...

could we please get those 5 members to post something so we know who is involved?

Thanks...

Also, any other members who vote in the poll, please be sure to post an entry saying that you would like to join us in this project.

We are only in the very beginning stages of this so you don't need to post your choices now, just let us know who you are

Thanks again

Tin, I really really like your suggestion of Dichea glauca.
From what I've read, it would do well in just about any location. I'm going to add it to my list of choices too

I also like the Angraecum idea, how's this?

and I like this too:

For some reason P. armeniacum is relatively hard to find. Especially in flasks or seedlings. I don't know if they just don't set a lot of seed, or something about flasking them is more difficult, but I haven't seen any small plants offered for sale in a long time. Not that I can afford, anyway.

Armeniacum itself isn't particularly hard to grow, but it is a fair bit more tricky than a lot of paphs. It wants to stay drier, and get fairly cold in the fall to initiate buds. Plus it sends long stolons around that can get trapped in pots, so it is probably a good candidate for growing in a basket... That tends to throw people off.

Thanks Rob for the info. I think in light of the new info, P. armeniacum should definetly be disqualified. As the soup nazi would say "NEXT ORCHID!!!!!!!!!"

While I am sure there are others, Cloud's Orchids has a varied selection of Paphs - making them available for the Canadian participants. Many are what they call ms (medium seedling), should bloom within 24 months. Oh, look....they have Paph. wardii! They even have an alba form!

I wasn't particularly saying we should order from Cloud's (though I'm not against it either), I was just looking at pretty pictures
