Hi! I plan to participate in the "contest" and I live in Canada. Paramount Orchids has been mentioned and I can certainly recommend them. I have only gotten plants from them through a third party, but they were very healthy. I have ordered supplies from them twice. The second time, the shipment was bulky and they really went out of their way to get the best shipping rate. This is harder than it seems as in Canada the Post Office calculates the cubic capacity of the parcel and that factors into the price. Four cubic feet of bark plus a cubic foot of moss adds up to big $$ for shipping, so I really appreciated their efforts. Anyway, I was very happy with their service. Just thought I'd pass that on.

So far, I know I will be choosing the Cischweinfia dasyandra as my first choice, it's a beautiful plant, it's fragrant, it's a Species, not too large, and inexpensive...which allows us to buy an extra plant
OK, I'm sold . Failing that, I found the Epi Calanthum, Phal Lowii and Sederia Japonica were a few of many appealing choices. There was a lot of work that went into that joint US/Canada list. Thanks.

Probably a bit late in the day for new suggestions but I just found one that would be great. Don't know if you can get it from your chosen nursery.
It is Cochleanthes amazonica.

I forgot I wrote that about the Cischweinfia dasyandra...it was before I spent the time to make up the larger list. I think my first choice now will be

Are we going to vote soon? Or are we just coming to a general concensus? I haven't had much to say since almost anything is ok with me. My preference is something summer or fall blooming. That's my new personal rule for buying orchids. Since my cymbidiums all bloom winter and spring, I'm only buying summer/fall. I'm willing to make an exception in this case, though.
