So I looked up some culture notes and found conflicting info. What I think I will do is grow in the pot it came in, keep it near my humidifier in front of my east window where it will get medium light, and it will be 70-78 degrees F. Water like my Draculas with only rainwater every 3 days. I have a fan going 24/7 in this area.

Just received the little cola and its companions. The cola looks okay but the shredded newspaper they used to wrap on top of the media was very moisted. I unpotted a few just to worried more. I saw brown mushy roots brown root nub and brown color at the base. I am at work and didn't have time to check every single plant but I did remove all of the shredded newspaper to make sure the roots get some fresh air. :(

I have to decide between keeping it mounted and potting it in LECA and a small basket pot or Vanda basket. I don't really like disturbing the roots but they are so much easier to take care of in a pot/Vanda basket. I will probably think about it another day. Just potted up the new Angraecum seedling from moss to lava rock and need a break from the stress of potting Angraecoids.

I have my old one in a 3" basket with VERY loose bark/sponge rock/charcoal mix with a layer of sphagnum moss on top. It gets watered every day (sometimes twice a day) and is on the east side of my wet wall. It gets filtered morning sun only to about 10am and then open shade for the rest of the day. It could probably take a bit more sun, and seems to be working on a spike.
The temps in my greenhouse right now are lows in the mid 60s at night and reaching into the low 80s for about 3 hours a day. I do not put a direct fan on the wet wall to keep humidity up, however I have two fans up top, an exhaust fan, and a swamp cooler that blows pretty hard. Here is a photo showing where it is located. I've been growing it for a year and can tell you that it needs high humidity (with moderate air movement) and no direct sun. Direct sun causes leaf burn very quickly (I lost a leaf almost immediately last year). It does grow slowly so you don't want to lose leaves. |

Got mine Tuesday! They also gave me a Den. Silver King as a bonus plant!
I was thinking about how to being to mount the monticola, when I saw this. Is that a spike maybe?? I really hope so! Although, it seems so small to have a spike already. Here is a picture if all three plants also. |
Sorry AUgrower but that little nubbin pointing up is a root. It is a god sign, the plant wants to grow.
|
I looked at mine and it is plastered to the mount so I will leave it on there.
