most are easy to come by here in SA at reasonable prices. i LOVE the Den cucumerinum, flowering sized mounted for sale at plantae at R140, about $14-15

Leptotes pohlitinocoi - I-W it says warm on Jay's, but there are several members in my society that say it grows practically the same as bicolor.

Also, usually we exclude any plants that have been done in past projects. Aerangis rhodostica is one of them. But I think we can leave it in the the list, it was a project plant back in project 4 in 2007, even before I joined OB. So none of the current participants participated in that project!

Leptotes bicolor IOSPE PHOTOS

Leptotes unicolor was already done as a project plant a few years ago. As this species is very similar, do you guys think we should exclude it? It’s easy to grow and very cute.

If we did Leptotes Bicolor, that would be really easy for me. I bought one in bud like three weeks ago. LOL!

Great for you, but if it wins I'd be disappointed to not have an excuse to buy another orchid!!!

I think leave it in. I don't see any reason why we can't recycle older project plants that are at least 6 or 7 years removed. We want to invite newer members to grow.

Otherwise we are really limiting our pool of plants for future projects.

BTW - it is really easy to grow so would be great for a beginner.

Just a thought - do we want to separate the project into two types: Beginner and Advanced? Some of the orchids listed can be challenging.

Thankfully, my husband loves my orchid habit and is excited for me to order a couple of the plants we've mentioned here in this thread. So, no worries. I'll still be making an order!!

Just chiming in on recent discussion! I wouldn't mind another from the Leptotes genus. They look like fun and completely manageable for any level of orchid grower.

Time flies, I didn't realize that the Leptotes unicolor project plant was in 2009! I didn't participate in the end but I was well involved in that project.

Th beginner vs advanced could be a good idea, but for future projects. I don't want to change the rules at this stage. The advantage of these projects is that beginners do learn a lot since there are so many people participating which share their knowledge in growing the plant. Also beginner vs advanced can have a whole lot to do with growing conditions as well... I have killed all but one of the project plants I've bought (and can't get that one to bloom), but I'm still here!

I made most of the final list last night, but got home too late to create the poll. So that's in my plans for this evening.

One question: I'm not sure about Dendrobium oligophyllum, I keep seeing it listed as a warm-hot grower, which would exclude it from this project. Anyone have first hand experience with this one?
