The community pot belongs to my share project partner. I don't pot in compots for myself per the suggestion from the local Phal expert. He said he always pots in singles now so that he doesn't do any damage when re-potting. Also, he said in singles you can re-pot when that plant is ready.

I did not use any chemical wash as I have killed too many seedlings by burning them. Now I use a plain water wash and sterilized moss (pressure cooked).

Here are the pictures. My project buddy will be getting the compot (mailing this weekend or next Thursday - depending on if he wants them to harden off for a week)
Awesome photos. My internet was wonky earlier when I was trying to message you. Just wait a week. Its supposed to be rather chilly this weekend here.

Where did you get those smaller pots?

Dollar Tree had a sale 3 for $1 so I bought everything they had on the shelf. It was like 2 cases. Perfect for single seedling pots.

Awesome! All y'all's flask-babies look great!

I should get my flasks by tues. they should be shipped on Monday, and I forked over for overnight shipping, so, hopefully I'll see them tues! And I will post pics first thing! yay!!

I just have to say, for ppl who haven't deflasked yet, & who haven't decided how they r gonna do it.... With my first flask (these will b my second) I now know, that sterilizing your media is an absolute must! (esp. If u will have them inside a humidity dome- which is pretty important for us inside growers) I also sprayed my seedlings with Physan 20, (and phyton 27 too if I remember correctly) and I think that was too strong for the seedlings, and I think what went wrong was something like damping off or similar fungal/bacterial something (and leaving my mom in charge of them for 4 days while I was out of town didn't help- although my mom def has a green thumb, it was just too much info/ stuff to watch out for all at once... Since she doesn't grow orchids.......... Yet) so, I lost them all eventually but, live & learn, it was a cheap flask, B. nodosa hybrid... I know now, (@ least I think I do! haha) what I did wrong

So GOOD LUCK Everybody!!!

Ok, part two of me in this project. This is a flask from Peter Lin at Big Leaf, Phal Buena Jewel x Dragon Tree Eagle. I'm super excited about this flask, and was really happy with what I found when I opened the flask up. Probably 25-35 plants, as I always lose count. I'm sure a good number of the ones I replated in flask would survive potted up, but I like to get them really big in flask with a good large root system. Attached you can see the ones I chose to pot up (2-4" leaf span with several good long roots. Ok well minus the one loner that will not make it on the far left... whoops ), the ones I replated, and the final potted up results.

I wanted to add that I'm not so big on the idea that you have to sterilize the media. It's probably a good idea, but you can get good and healthy plant growth without it. I know putting them in 100% humidity sounds scary, believe me, but they do surprisingly well. There is some algae, but that's always the case. I'll probably say this, you'll try it, and they'll all die, so I apologize in advance. But in my conditions growing under lights in closed containers they do great with nonsterile media soaked in a little fert and some Kelpmax.

I dont know if I should make a new thread for this or if its ok to post this here.

My question is how should I sterilize CHC, and do I need to sterilize charcoal and sponge rock?

Thanks

To all who have replated phal seedlings, which kind of media do you use? Looks like Phyto but I know there are a few and I'd like to know exactly which one is best? I think I'm going to give it my first shot.

Well, I had ordered a phal flask from Carmela Orchids and just now opened the package. Instead of sending me a flask of the cross, they sent me a bunch of plugs that have easily been out of flask for at least a year. :/

I emailed them telling them that I specifically wanted a flask, we'll see what they say. Sigh...

Here are the Phal bellina compots that will be sent to Call_me_Bob when I return from my brother's funeral. The plants look great and are under a humidity dome. Total count for this flask was about 30.

Wow, looking at everyone's progress is making me impatient as I'm still waiting on my flask. Should ship out today; so, hopefully, it will be here soon.

This will be my first time deflasking and you have all been a great source of information. Thanks everyone for sharing - I know I have lots to learn. I am planning on using moss sterilized in microwave. My only worry is I have not had luck with straight moss before. I do have a seedling mix from repotme.com that might be good for this. What do you think? I have few new small plastic pots that should be good for this. I also have a plastic container from a Costco sized cheesecake that I could use as a humidity dome - hopefully it is tall enough or I just need to buy a bigger cake
