Do we need a mod to make it official?

Anyway, sounds like we don't need a vote thread if folks are agreed on phals in general. A sign up thread would be an idea though? I'm thinking we could set a time limit on sign up? Maybe until the end of May?

And of course, since it seems a few of us want to get started, start the actual thread as well!

Phal (Buena Jewel 'Joy' X Dragon Tree Eagle 'DT#1' AM/AOS) [F1242f] - $125.00 : Big Leaf Orchids, Fragrant and Novelty Phalaenopsis

I really, really think this cross has some potential as well. A little expensive but 5 people going in makes it probably $28-30 with shipping and we'd all likely get 4-6 orchids.

OK, I think we need a thread to serve three purposes:

List of sources
Discuss flask sharing arrangements

I'd be willing to start it: whoever starts it will need to keep the lists of who's signed up and sources in the first post. I'm happy to fill that role.

Bob, I'll be at the SEPOS show too (North Jersey Orchid Society) on Thurs, Fri and Sun (for the tear down). If we can coordinate something that is not too expensive, I'm in.

While the cross looks like it will be a good one the majority of the plants in it are really small, say most of them are 1" LS. They would do well to grow on in the flask till they got more size to them say another 3-4 months. I also know a person who purchased one of the sellers flask last year and the media is rather soft, so the flask doesn't ship well with the plants ending up jumbled and requiring immediate de-flasking.

On the other hand the flask that Josh (bballr4567) posted

Phal (Buena Jewel 'Joy' X Dragon Tree Eagle 'DT#1' AM/AOS) [F1242f] - $125.00 : Big Leaf Orchids, Fragrant and Novelty Phalaenopsis

would be a much better candidate. The plants are a good 3" LS therefore making for a higher success rate no matter when they were de-flasked.

Just throwing this out there as I don't know how much experience anyone has de-flasking and I've had both and I know which I'd prefer to have to deal with. call me bob has been a recipient of a few.

Chances are there won't be flasks for sale at the SPOS.

Hi All,

FYI, if someone wants to go Cattleya, Topmacsniper on ebay has excellent flasks. Ruben has shipped me 4 and I have had excellent vigor in the plants with only slight loss.

items in Ruben In Orchids store on eBay!

Also, he has great customer service. I'm willing to go in on a Catt cross. I already have a Phal tetraspis flask and it was a small yield so I would prefer to keep them all.

One thing to keep in mind if ordering from Meyers...it is not instant...there is no telling when the flasks will be ready.

Also, I'm up for ordering a flask from SVO. Great quality and Fred is awesome to deal with. Here is the link.

Sunset Valley Orchids - Grower and hybridizer of quality orchids, Vista CA

And the last one that I recommend is Mick Fournier (HBI). I purchased several from him and had very good quality.

If you are wanting to get something at the show it might be worth touching base with the seller via email so that they can bring something for you.
