I'd be interested in this project too! But the problem is that no matter which orchid wins, I have not a clue (really zero, nadda, zip) on where to get hold of one. I'm in Europe and buy all my orchids in garden centers and such which sell really basic plants.
So unless anyone has any ideas, looks like I'll be watching this project from the sidelines!

Hi Camille
We'd love to have you join us. Let's see which plant gets chosen and then we'll see what we can do about getting availability of it to you. In our last project, we had a number of our European members involved and they posted a few web sites they used.

Here is a great little article on Rupicolous Laelia Culture - I don't know if the link has been posted but here it is - How to Grow Rupicolous Laelias
Those in fear of low lighting might be surprised as I was in reading that "they (rupicolous laelias) will bloom with light levels adequate for most standard Cattleya hybrids. If grown in full sun they will eventually die." ...
"This group of orchids is adaptable to a wide temperature and humidity range and will happily grow in the same conditions as the rest of your cattleyas and oncidiums."
I hope this sheds some new 'light' to those that have shied away from this project because of possible growing restrictions.

Someone needs to put Rupiculous into the glossary. I don't know what that means.

Not what I have been told. Even Mauro stated
Yes, for the rock Laelias light, very bright light is a real need!

The link is Laelia briegeri
I have this same 'chid (briegeri) and have been keeping it next to south-facing window where is gets dismal sun in Michigan autumns but is best I can do. Lithophytes grow pretty much in full sun and turn very red and bloom faithfully in the native areas of Brazil.

Sue - I think you and Mauro have a bone to pick with James Nickou as he reported that in the May 1990 AOS Bulletin.

Where is he? Let me at him!
Seriously...
Orchidwiz says 3000-4000 fc for L reginae. Direct midday sun should be somewhat diffused or filtered.
Jay's site calls for Bright or full light
It all boils down to my old mantra:

I was hoping it would turn some discouraged orchidteers around so they would join us in this project
Sue, you want me to tape up your hands before you put on those boxing gloves
