Are we still only going with small - mini in size, intermediate grower, and species only? Since I have a couple of weeks on my hand with nothing to do but read & watch TV I thought I'd start to put a list together.

Yup...those are the basics. With so many people involved in the last big one, we'll be changing the one vendor rule. We'll be able to order them from any vendor of our choosing. It was difficult finding one place with the number of plants we needed. The one downfall to this is that there will be no discounts involved

How's your hand/wrist today?

OK Sue, I'll start looking within those parameters.

Hand/wrist is doing fine...no pain yet which I didn't expect. Only a little residual numbness in my fingertips. I suppose it will start to hurt when I get all the feeling back.

Hey all...newer to the board and interested in the up-coming project... just curious as to why the above came to be? That being said...anyone interested in a project that is outside of the posted parameters... I'm thinking along the lines of either something very specific ie: Australian Terrestrials, Mounted Phals, etc... or something very broad ie: Cattleya intergenerics, etc.

I like the idea of setting some parameters, but why not change the dynamics a bit, especially if the previous projects have all fallen within the "set" criteria; same cultural aspects but different plants?
Just my two cents...i'll look forward to 08 March

That's good news...what you're feeling or not feeling right now may be the extent of it. When I had mine done, they were telling me expect pain blah blah blah...I didn't use more than a few Advil

The reason the last few projects have involved small growing plants is that most folks here grow in limited spaces, terrariums, windowsills, etc. While there are some that have greenhouses, they are a small percentage (I think) of the total community. Your idea is a good one however and should not be lost.

The reason we have limited it to species plants is they are easier for everyone to get internationally. Some of the specific named, awarded hybids aren't available in every country.

No rules here say you can't set up your own project. I think it would be fun for many to participate in a project the chosen plant ends up being a specialist plant or something. Or even if its a genus project to see which species in that genus is prettiest, or easiest etc... In the not so recent past one of our members set up Paph project of some sort.

Hi Adam,
As the others have already answered some of your questions, I'll just try to elaborate a bit more:

We go for smaller sized plants because of some member's space issues. There are a few of us that can grow the larger plants but that would eliminate many of our members who grow in terrariums and on windowsills in their apartments.

We try to stick with an "Intermediate" grower because the locations involved are so varied...the last project had over 30 people from 8 different countries all growing the same plant.

One of our goals has always been to try for a plant none of us have but that has become VERY hard to accomplish. Some folks drop out and then others just get a second version of the plant they have.

When the process for the new project starts, I hope to see you there with us. We do lots and lots of research and probably go through hundreds of suggestions before narrowing it down to the ten or so that make it to the final poll. We have a lot of fun and some great conversations because the pros and cons of each plant suggested is discussed.

The projects have also helped me look into orchids I would not have normally been attracted to or had an interest in. Just out of research, I found many that I have purchased out of my new knowledge and many that are on my wish list.

Adam - If you have an idea to create a project, let it be known .. I maybe interested
