I guess we should give more time to let people have their say (including those who post from work on Monday!), but I guess it is rather looking like all of us so far have a lack of time/space for this right now (including me).

If that turns out to be the decision, then I really hope it's not the end for this, and we do carry on with this in the spring. I've been getting really excited about the possibilities. So I thought I'd have a brief go through, and list the suggestions made.

Our area orchid shows are always Feb- early April, and it seems as if that is a busy time for others, so if we could start the project just before then, maybe people can save on shipping with preorders. Shows bring vendors from all over, too, which make it easier to find orchids. We'd have the spring and summer months to acquire the orchids.
I like the ideas and hope we do restart this in time for show season. It seems like a fun project.

I like this idea. There is a show I always go to in mid-late February which provides a good time to pick plants up. Shipping in Canada isn't really appropriate until mid to late April otherwise.

I believe that our orchid show is around April as well, and with the possibility that I may be moving in the next month or so it looks like it is better for me to put off the summer project. Although there are a few plants on this list that I'm interested in for the project.

So, I guess, we are waiting til next Spring? I am OK with that... I got the plants I wanted anyway....:rofl: I couldn't wait for those.

Looks like it! I haven't done an order. Budgeting... got a course to pay for for one thing. Also going to the BOC congress in a couple of weeks so I have a feeling I'll get a few plants there...

So, if everyone is in agreement, let us start this again in January, have the vote done quickly, in time that people can pre-order from foreign vendors for the shows, then set us all loose for spring to get the prize (by then we will all be pretty desperate to get a new one). :)

January is way way too early, most people can't have anything shipped with the cold! Starting in march is early enough, most people can't order until the warmer April temps anyway.

Orchid show season starts in Mid-February here and goes until about the end of March or beginning of April. Shows offer a great way for people to pre-order and save on shipping. However, if you think this is a bad idea, I will gladly defer to your opinion. Last year, I saw quite a few of the orchids at shows on the last project list that couldn't be found on any of the vendor sites. That was why I had this crazy idea. :)
