Just an idea (which could be an expansion of the phal parishii suggestion), how about doritis pulcherrima and its varieties and primary hybrids such as Anna-Larati Soekardi (phal parishii x doritis pulcherrima)? There are a lot of different varieties of the pulcherrima, including some cute pelorics, but I had trouble finding it in Canada, which is why I thought this could expand to phal parishii. I have found some growers. Please be aware that I do not know growers from the US or Canada - perhaps someone can vouch for the ones that aren't listed at the beginning of this thread.

US:

Doritis at Santa Barbara Orchid Estate

Doritis pulcherrima (alba sib cross): Carter and Holmes Orchids

Orchids By Hausermann: Dtps. Kenneth Schubert 'Blue Star' x Doritis pulcherrima (blue) IN SPIKE! (they have others if you search but they may be too young)

Phalaenopsis Catalog (situated in Hawaii)

New Arrivals : Big Leaf Orchids, Fragrant and Novelty Phalaenopsis (some doritis pulcherrima, some hybrids with primary hybrids as parents)

Canada

Phalaenopsis List (would need to email for price and plant size)

Tropical Gardens Orchids

Phalaenopsis - Orchids In Our Tropics

Species (Paramount do have hybrid with pulcherrima but looks like they are seedlings)

EU

Schwerter Orchideenzucht - Das Orchideen Zentrum Westfalens

Popow Orchids - Doritis

Phalaenopsis parishii - Großräschener Orchideen

Primrhybriden - Orchideen und Orchideenzubehr der Schwerter Orchideenzucht

Loads in the EU it seems.

Anyway - just a suggestion. After the 'to hybrid or not to hybrid' discussion I was a little unsure about this idea.

It is a great idea. The more ideas, the more choices. Some of these are constantly in bloom and very beautiful. If most people don't want to do a hybrid, they won't vote on it. Or, if it doesn't fit the criteria, someone will share that information.

Hello- So Camille sees this and adds you to the list, sign up on the sign up thread otherwise you might get lost! Here is the link. Oh and you can buy the winning plant when you get home. It doesn't matter if you buy it right away or not. Many people last project had to wait to buy their plant for various reasons. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...up-thread.html

So I thought I would throw out a suggestion, I do not have access to orchid wiz so I'm not sure if this one would get to large or if the light requirements are too high. I'm also not sure about how readily avaliable it really is. However I would be interested in Holcoglossum wangii I have seen at least what looks like a couple of primary hybrids but not many.

ISOPE
Holcoglossum wangii

Vendors US

Andy's Orchids

Oak Hill Gardens

European (Could only find 2 that carry it)

Schwerter

Elsner

Canada

None

I have been looking at those for awhile, such lovely plants. I don't think they get big but I don't have any experience with those. I hope we can find more vendors as I would love to get my hands on one of those.

I'm Just Saying, if it's Holcoglossums generally then in Canada I find:

Tropical Gardens Orchids, Holcoglossum amesianum, nbs $30. Does say 'limited'

(Schwerter in Europe also have about 6 different ones)
