I'll start planning to do a bunch of flasks for the next project. Hope some people like novelty phals! If not, I'll just have a lot of fun seedlings

A previous poster said generally the seedlings are going to need 2 years in flask, which is probably too long.
I think if we were going to do a project starting with our own crosses we would have to start with some discussion of the crosses, and with people doing them in different regions at the same time.
No reason you shouldn't do any crosses you want of course. If the other poster is right though it would be year after if you wanted to offer them to board members!
What pods have you got then? (If you don't mind saying!)

LOL, I'd probably be tempted too, if I wasn't in the wrong region. I guess there's no harm in anyone who wants to making a cross and later asking if anyone's interested, as long as they aren't counting on help.
I have two noid phals I'm very tempted to try crossing... such a shame they are noids!

My vote would have to go to rupiculous laelias. They are fabulous little plants. Great windowsill growing or under fluorescents. I'm on the verge of buying 20 different species now (thanks to rolando who's got me wanting on them), and a plant project with them would be awesome.
For those of us in the US - I know Andy's orchids has a bunch of them along with Chaz and Brian on eBay...
They seem to range from $15-25 a plant.

Hello All,
I just skimmed the thread; I like the 3 zone idea as I tend to stick to the cool growers; I'm curious though as to whether or not we might either try incorporating primary hybrids into our criteria as well or perhaps consider voting on a genus as opposed to an individual species...it would be interesting to see what everyone goes for and compare notes with everybody...
Just my
Adam

I'm trying to hold on and not order until we get this sorted, but I'm having trouble! LOL Both Elsner and Schwerter have stuff I really want and I'm scared they'll go out of stock!

I also have a couple of pods going in my closet. . . two primary hybrids, and some other complex ones, so if we were to do a regional project, I could supply the seedlings for that, as a few pods (the primary hybrids) are nearly mature, and I know a person in my city who is willing to do flasking for me. Ooo, I also have two pods going of a selfing of my equestris 'Red'!
