In the last thread I talked about an idea I had for keeping a mounted orchid. Since it looks like I'm getting potted, and will probably keep it that way for at least a while, I thought I'd post my idea again in case it's of any use to anyone.
Basically my idea was to use a plastic storage box to hang a mount and catch any drips. I think size and shape of the box would depend what you are putting in it, where it would go etc. But I think possibly some boxes designed for food storage (eg pasta) might actually work well for one mount. I also intended to cut a big window and maybe additional ventilation holes (and use a narrow box that would sit on a shelf) to avoid the need for a fan inside.
For actually hanging stuff you could use either a wire, with maybe large buttons on the outside of the box to hold the ends, or a dowel with screws through the box and the ends.
Probably not pretty, but I think it could be neat and practical... Here's a sketch:
