Thanks for the comments and the advise on light. The plant isn't quiet as dark as it looks in the picture as that was a natural light shot on a very cloudy day (Hurricane Sandy is coming). That said though, it is much darker than my Soph. coccinea that I keep in my south facing window. Hmmmm. Why didn't I think of that before?
Cheers.

WOW! That is a very large specimen, Jim....yep Camille is right: the placement is not good...relocate the plant in a brighter place or add a supplemental lightbulb...this time make it at longer interval....longer daylight induce them to flower....60 to 80F cool to warm....above 90F it will just keep on giving keiki on you but no blooms....evenly moist not wet

Next spring when it spills out over the edges of the pot some more, I want to transfer some cuttings to a 7 inch square of EcoWeb/EpiWeb I'm saving for it. I think that would look so awesome to see a big mount in bloom.
Cheers.

Very nice! I had a chance to buy one with nice red flowers and the longer leaf like your has at the Susquehanna Orchid Society show in Lancaster and I passed. Now I could kick myself for not getting one.
Cheers.

That is a lovely blooming. I can't tell if the leaves are larger than an 1" long, or if the flowers are just very small. ;-)
Mine has a spike with just one flower bud, that's been growing since the beginning of the month. Should open soon.

Thanks Jim! It is interesting to see the different shapes in the leaves.

These leaves are easily an inch long. Ill measure next time I am in the basement. None the less, the flowers are quite small haha

Mine is currently teasing me. The new leaf is part open, and has been for a while! I've been away 4 days and was hoping all would be revealed when I got back, but it's still about 1/3 closed.
I'll be very surprised if it's hiding buds, but I can't help thinking it being slow to open is a good sign? Probably not, but it's looking like a few more days till I know for sure!
Meanwhile I think I'm going to have to take it out of the cute 'greacian urn' style yoghurt pot it's in. It just doesn't seem to dry out well, and I've lost another of the newer roots. Or maybe I'll keep it in there, but change the seedling mix it's got to some big chunky phal bark?

Even if I'm not an Soph expert, I would say yes to large size bark.
31drew31 what a nice blooming! 5 more to open - wow! great job!
regarding leaves, mine for sure are more than inch long.
