Just because they get less light doesn't mean they are not getting enough light to turn purple. The newer leaves might be getting more light but the undersides might not be getting enough light to turn purple yet. The older leaves also seem to turn purple like that easier than the newer leaves.

I agree it's from light. Younger leaves are used to high light amounts, therefore older ones turn purple easier.

Default Underside purple

Josh and all,
I just checked my plant and yes, the one I mounted also has the purple "bottoms"! Interesting. The one that is mounted and the one that is in the tiny pot are doing very well. I see new growth and we seem to be rolling along.

Mine's lost some roots. I think maybe it hasn't been drying out fast enough, so going to have to work on that.

Default Loss of roots

Hi, Is this one in a pot? I spray or water and make sure that all water drains before putting it back into the square "humidity vase" that has aquarium gravel in it. So far, I hope, so good. What can you do to get it to dry out faster? Repot? Use another medium?

Mine appears to be doing ok, there is a new growth about 1/2 an inch tall.

I think I'm going to try putting some more holes in the pot. Also will think about changing to a chunkier medium: it's in seedling mix at the moment.

pot is drying out as it does, watering frequency is what you have to adjust. I would repot only if the medium gets 'old' and soggy. Plants preferring to be grown mounted also prefer chunkier and 'fast drying' substrate.

eh... I'm still waiting for my plant happy reading your posts, Thanks!

I still have not gotten around to repotting mine out of sphag. It's doing great though, it sprouted 5 new roots which are growing really fast.

Camille- If you want to get your cernua out of the moss, I would repot now when it is putting out new roots so it will establish easier. They are like Cattleyas and need to be repotted when the plant is putting out new roots or it can set it back quite a bit. Disregard if you already know this!
