Like the shelf!
The first thing, besides the guards, that I noticed were the fantastic green leaves. Wow! You have a fireplace in your kitchen? Do you use it? If you do, does that affect the orchids at all? Just being nosy here. They look wonderful. I really like your arrangement in the container to hold in humidity. I have mind in some square glass vases with stone that you use for fish tanks and I add just a smidgen of water and then the plant after it is watered and it holds the humidity in there. Yours look great and I really like the way they "hang around". I know what you mean about cats. We have 3 in the house, a few in the barn with the horses and a dog! None of the animals touch the orchids.

The picture's in my living room: the fireplace is just a wall-mounted electric fire that I only use once in a blue moon, usually only if my heating is off for some reason. The containers are just various food trays, more for stopping drips on the shelf than anything! Maybe I will add some stones at some point... I've only had a humidity monitor over the winter, and it's been high enough, so I'll see how it goes this summer. I'm sure your glass vases will look a lot better in real life than my trays!
I'm probably too worried about the cats. I am planning on moving some of my noids to a table at the back of the living room sometime soon (when I've got the cd collection there under control... I have too much stuff!), at which point I'll find out how much destruction they'll really get up to! LOL
Here's a pic of that noid phal in bloom: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...scue-phal.html I am very pleased it's spiking again... it's also grown a mad amount of new roots the last few months!

Hi,
The picture is beautiful and the color is so rich looking. In fact, looks like velvet and you are so right. How could you let that set there like an orphan. I couldn't walk by that either. As for too much stuff...welcome to the real world! I think all of us who love orchids have that problem LOL

I know... reading that thread, I said I'd been telling myself no more orchids till I put some shelves up. Guess what, I must have about 3 times as many and still not put any shelves up!

LOL, setting limits like that does not work! I said to myself that there would be no new orchids until I moved (no more space here). Well I ended up buying lots more anyway, and the plants are now on every available surface. Good thing that I'm finally moving in 2 weeks! But I WILL have to set up a shelf. My living room has a huge, deep windowsill but it faces east. The west facing kitchen window would be perfect for many orchids, but no sill! So putting in a shelf will be one of the first things I do.

"I can't get any new orchids" never works...
I found "I don't want any new orchids to have to take care of right now" to be a mildly more successful argument.

Hi,
To add to the sayings, I got off of here and went to Carter and Holmes and looked at the 2012 listings and pictures and felt so bad for those orchids. They looked soooo lonely and then I remembered what Camille said, "TC" and then it hit me! Not only TC but TC plus box = one happy Janice so yep, I was going to order only a few net pots! 5 really neat orchids later and no net pots, I am happy! Thanks one and all for helping me feed my addiction!

So now you have to order again to get those net pots!

pots
I guess I should have but my husband was looking at the orchids with me and really liked one of them so I ordered one for him too and that just did it. I ordered a Blc Lester MacDonald, a Paphiopedilum Newberry Jade Dream a Psychopsis Butterfly (seedling), a Masdevallia Beth Cox and an Oeceoclades decaryana which is a "Limit One"! I just couldn't bear to see them by themselves and Carter and Holmes is such a great dealer!
Well, I went into our sunroom and found some extra net pots! Gee, how lucky am I. I did save some money you know! LOL
