"Dangle"
Paul,
That's what I have seen and yet I have also been told and have seen directions for wrapping up the roots inside the basket or vase. I would think that they need the air and also the water since isn't that how the water is taken into the plant? I'm not a pro in this so I might be talking out the wrong side of my mouth. If I am, please, please correct me. All my smaller Vandas dangle and I understand that when they do get bigger, they can have roots that go to approximately 6 feet long.

The size of roots can get that big, ad maybe I'm wrong as well but they may wrap those roots so when they wager in the baskets more roots get wet as well as controlling the massive roots Vandas can produce. I may be wrong though as I'm also new to Vandas myself, lol...

Perhaps this conversation should have its own thread?

Paul, I'm sorry if I did something wrong with the thread here. I think it should be under the Vanda thingys.Oops. Wrong place.

No, you're fine. I should have been more clear. I just think this thread is better served for the project plant and you will get better responses on this subject if it is in a thread all of its own with an appropriate title.

I am on the Vanda which is fine because I was asked about my Vandas before and especially the name of one of them so I am there. No problem. I think we should leave this one for the project plants! LOL

LOL. Well they do look good.
Thought I'd post a pic of my Soph in it's new home. I got fed up of musical chairs in the bathroom, and some of the new gang didn't seem happy in there. The Paph joined the kitchen gang as it's a bit cooler, darker and more humid in there.
South facing window just over a foot to the left of the shelf. Windowsill there and top of fireplace other end that the cats could jump up off, hence the 'guardians' who get to be what falls off if they do!
From left to right, tray by tray:
1) 2 Jade plant cuttings
2) 1 Jade plant cutting from a different plant, plus the Soph
3) Phaleanopis noidus 'Sainsburies Purple', in spike. A couple of 'cambria' noids got moved to make room, but this plant seems to love the position. It's also the one of my Phals that gets the most light, but has the darkest green leaves! LOL
4)Sedirea Japonica and Cycnodes 'Wine Delight'
5) Phal cornu-cervi and 2 Max pictas.
6) Phal Purple Martin (will possibly get moved to somewhere shadier, when I'm sure the cats won't eat it!)
