Whereas you guys have been recommending mounted culturefor the soph cernua,
whereas my main reason not to mount, was that I didn't want yet another orchid that needed daily watering
and whereas my little clay pot has been drying out almost daily so I was watering my little soph all the time anyway
... I decided to mount my soph after all.
This time, I actually picked off all the stuck bark pieces, and realized that like several of you who ordered from J&L, my soph is actually 2 separate plants.
I didn't have any convenient wood chunks on hand, but I did have a giant clam shell left over from dinner. I'll see how it likes it growing on that as a mount, with some live sphagnum moss for padding.

Cute! Looks like it's something halfway between a pot and a mount, I like it.

Got my non TC package of orchids today. So, so, so happy with them and the cost. I'll start up another thread here soon but they are Phal. Sogo Gotris, Phal. Flora Gigi variegated and Paph purpuratum (wrong one as I wanted hainanense instead but itll do too!). The Gigi is insanely beautiful. Be prepared to be jealous!

Soccer Ball Soph!
Hi,
So glad that the Soccer Ball has caught on. LOL Plant looks wonderful. I just received my second one today and will mount it tomorrow. Having a good time with this and really enjoy the comments I have been reading along with all the great hints and culture of the plants.

I think it's the perspective that's making it look a lot bigger than it actually is. It's small, very small in fact. I thought my Phal Equiwilson was small, but this guy beats it.
I hope so too! Otherwise I'll be very sad.

Oh, you ordered a hainansense and got a purpuratum instead? That's one mix-up! You'll have to get a hainanense as well, they're gorgeous!
