Thanks for the tips Ramón. I think Schwerter must have gotten them 2-3 weeks ago with all the latest stuff that appeared in the webshop. But I think I will stick to Elsner, I don't feel like dealing with establishing a plant, and besides, Elnser has TCs I can't live without, while those at Schwerter can wait.
I'll email Claessen in the Netherlands about the Soph too, that's where I got my last one and it was a beautiful plant, well established, and cheap. Maybe Rick has some laying around his greenhouses.

Furtermore, the plant was not dehydrated and was in active growth, right? If the plant would have been stablished and then neglected, loosing all roots, you should have been able to see old dead roots, and probably would have been dehydrated and not in active growth... Other option, the plant was indeed mounted "long" ago, and could not get stablished well because it had no roots... this would again support the suggestion that immediate mounting is not the best way to establish a newly imported or rootless plant...

Anyway, it was just a suggestion on how to better start your plant (and all rootless plants people could receive!)... I still would recommend that for your plant... However, as said before, you have the plant first hand and can evaluate much better what to do with under your conditions. ;)

Thanks for the tips Ramon! It did have old, dead roots on it though - I cut those off when I removed it from the mount. The oldest, dried-out roots were very long and looked as though they had old bits of bark attached to them. Perhaps this was a pot grown plant that didn't establish after being mounted, as you suggest.

Anyway, serves me right after jumping the gun! My challenge will be to see how quickly I can get this guy to establish.

@Wynn Dee13 - I'm so sorry to hear about your previous experience. I would've been devastated!

Same here. Kind of disappointed because I'm leaving on Thursday to go out of town and I had emailed J&L Saturday and they said they would hold it if it ships on Tuesday.

Really hope it gets here Thursday.

I just got an email saying my cernua shipped today too along with its 4 TC's! Looks like all 3 of us might get ours the same day!

I can't believe they didn't do what they told you they would do! I hope your package gets to you before you leave. That would disappoint me too. Do you have someone that could get the package for you if it comes after you leave?

Paul Mc 05-01-2012 11:14 AM

Can you call them and ask if it's left yet? If it hasn't, they can stop it and resend later.

We plan to ship it on Monday via priority mail, which should get there in two to three days. If you like we can hold it and ship it the following week on May 7. Let us know what you want us to do. Thank you J&L Orchids
That is what I got on Sat.

I replied back that if it ships on Monday its fine.

Guess it's a waiting game now.

bballr4567 05-01-2012 11:23 AM

Crisis averted. She said she pulled it out and shipped it yesterday because of my situation. The shipping email was just late apparently.

Do you think they could of shipped it on Monday but didn't give you the shipment confirmation until today? Did they give you a tracking number?

Edit: Looks like we were posting at the same time!

Hi, I received an email this morning from J&L that my orchids have also shipped and should arrive in 2 to 3 days so 4 of us should receive ours at the same time. Looking forward to posting and seeing pictures!
Janice
