I mounted it completely bare-root. :)
I have no idea if this is the best method but I love seeing the roots and it seems pretty happy. Good luck! |
Thanks Leafmite!

Here is an update with the second buds beginning to open and one of the flowers fading early, perhaps due to the window being too cold. The third set of buds is biding its time. It would have been a nicer show if they had decided to bloom at the same time but perhaps some other year....

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/13/8asuzura.jpg Here is my Sophronitis cernua blooming on a little stick this winter. I've had it for several years and kind of neglect it., but it always surprises me with flowers in January. It summers out on the back porch

Just about forgot about this thread, but now with winter on our doorstep, it means time for flowers...
So here is an update on my soph. cernua...on the spring project. last year i had a few flowers on two growths, although i cannot remember if i was able to get photo's.. :( This year however, i'm on it, managed numerous codac moment :D.... 2 new growths again, holding 4 buds each, this year. 4 flowers open, with 4 buds still maturing.... |
Nice! Mine has not bloomed AGAIN. I just don't get it. Maybe I have a non-bloomer.

Mine blooms every winter in a cold spot in the tiny greenhouse. I think it needs the cool dry short sunny days to set blooms. Mine spends every summer on the back porch and is mounted on a stick where it grows bigger. gets the hose and fertilizer every week or two.
