I think we should follow Camille's instructions while she is gone. She is putting a lot of time and energy into this project and we should respect that. We are lucky she is organizing this project for us. She has enough to do all ready when she gets back. Disregarding her instructions is going to just give her more to do and I find it disrespectful.
That is my !

If Janice is buying the project plant to participate then her opinion should count. Several people indicated they might drop out if the selection doesn't suit them for one reason or another. Why does it make more sense to count votes of eventual non-participants than those of someone who does? It's all in fun anyway, I don't see what there is to gain by excluding willing participants.

Janice, I also say just vote if you want to. No one's going to kick you off the forum for trying to join a project late.

I don't know. I'm not the one organizing the project. I'm just following the instructions Camille left us with. No one is going to get kicked off by voting. It will just make it harder for Camille. Like I said, it is just out of respect for Camille and her time to follow her instructions. If you don't want to follow her instructions then don't. It's just my opinion that we should.

I totally agree with Wynn... Organizing the project is a lot of work, and I think everybody (including those who want to joint the project after deadline!) should appreciate all the effort Camille is doing in parallel to her work and PhD... It is just a matter of respect to her!
And sorry, Nat, but Camille is the organizer and she has put some rules in order to have some order and make it easier for her to keep track... Anarchy at this point (especially when Camille is not available) would not help at all... If Camille agrees that Janice or someone else can join the project after the deadline, they will have the chance to vote on the second poll...
The argument that some people will drop anyway, is just ridiculous and mere assumption! YES, some people mentioned that, but as an alternative if they did not like the winning plant at all (which I also think is very silly, and only shows a childish attitude to the whole game)... however, at this point we do not know who is dropping or whether anybody is dropping from the project at all...
As mentioned, Camille is the organizer, she has put some rules, and as long as she is not available, we should respect her and follow the rules of the game...
Just my

If anyone doesn't think Camille has a lot to do, I suggest they start by going through the current poll thread, and making a list of plants and who has voted for which of them (as declared so far). Remember Camille already has 40 people to do that with. Do that before even thinking about breaking the rules deliberately and voting.

Thanks for the "push" but I'll leave it to the members who have been doing this for a while and I will abide by the rules! Janice

also - and I don't believe I am throwing this pigeon amongst these cats - I think that any plant getting 50% or more in first vote, should AUTOMATICALLY be the chosen plant

or or better still

This has become a little stressful..poor Camille.
If this is a problem, why don't we have the 41 people, and only the original 41 people who signed up before the deadline send her a PM with our top 5 votes. That way she can count the votes and as the moderator of the project, decide what to do with the results. just saying.

actually this is turning out to be extremely simple to sort out.
42 people have voted, 41 signed up. I thought I had signed up, but didn't. But want to, as previously indicated. Thus by simple math I am the extra person.
If anyone else votes, past the 42, then they need to say so and either be disqualified or added to the participant list.
And there are stats on who has voted. Camille would thus be able to use them to eliminate the disqualified voters past 41, or 42, by doing a name comparison.
