I've seen Louisiana Orchid Connection selling Phal. parishii on ebay for $20 recently (ebay ID laorchidjohn). If they have enough to go around this could be a viable option. I've bought a few plants, mostly hard-to-find bulbos, from them and their quality and service is great. I think our member goods14 (Zach) knows them personally, he could probably provide additional 'character reference' as needed. Not that you all need more plants for the list... ;)

Update: just checked their website and parishii is selling for $20 there, too, so they probably have a good few in stock.

It is listed as Kingigium decumbens at Paramount FS for $26

Parkside in the USA has it for $18

I sent an e-mail to Dowery Orchids to see if they are still selling. They carried a lot of Phal species and I heard good things about them in the past.

I'll find out from my network if we can vouch for them. IF they are still selling.

Dwayne (Dowery Orchids) was one of the best vendors around, but as far as I know he's out of the business for good. He had an amazing personal collection in addition to the great stuff he sold.

Isn't one of the reasons to participate in the project is to buy and grow a plant you might not buy otherwise?:) I went back and read some of the earlier project posts and many people said they couldn't believe they liked their new project plant so much because it wasn't a plant they would of bought on their own. You never know you might end up liking a whole new genera of orchids that you thought you wouldn't! There are a lot of plants on the list that I wouldn't buy either if it wasn't for the project.:biggrin: But I think we should keep our minds open and you never know we might end up with a neat little plant we can't live without. :dance13: Just my:twocents:

for my first project, i only liked phals, and only some phals at that. buttt after the project, i really started branching out, and not once have i regretted it!!!

I'm not sure how often they update, but their catalog lists Oncidium Ornithorhynchum as "available again soon."

But it's a huuuuge difference between might not buy otherwise, and can't even stand the sight of (YES, I'm odd, I know that).

There are plenty of plants on the list that I could live with if they won - they are a bit pointless but I won't at least end up hating them. Others though... Let me just say that I refuse to get a plant I know I'll end up disliking, for the sake of the plant. I don't want to kill another plant because I dislike it so much.

The chances of me ending up liking a whole new genera are pretty slim. I might end up liking one species of a new genera but probably not all of them (I definitely don't like all of the species Phals for example). Trust me, I'm trying to keep an open mind but when said mind at times go "What's that? That's the FLOWER? It looks like something crawled up on the plant and died, for crying out loud! How could anyone find this attractive?" and so on and so forth, it's a bit hard. ;)

But this is me and I'm very glad there are people who don't work like me out there. :nod:

And now I really want the voting to commence (I know when it'll start but I still want to vote now, preferably yesterday! :biggrin: )

l'll add Phal parishii then, as well as the Phal/kingidium decumbens. I think I know 3 places in EU that have the second one.

If they are favorites in the voting, in the worst case we remove them from the list if, once we've emailed growers, availability is an issue.

And you know what? There are several project plants that I really didn't like at all, thought I hated the genus. And I mean REALLY didn't like. And you know what, those orchids grew on me, and after a while I really started to like them. That's how I got into Angraecoids. I used to hate them before. You need to have an open mind, there is no way for you to know if you hate something until you've tried it. Many of the odd looking orchids are very cute in person! :) One example is Podangis dactyloceras. Looks very weird in photos, but once you see it in person, that's a different matter, and you learn to love it.

And this is the point of the project: to buy a plant that you otherwise would never ever buy. If people didn't change their minds about a plant, there would never be such high demand for projects each year, nor so many participants. I really encourage you to give this project a go no matter what! :)
