I'm fine with putting sumatranum on the list, but people will have to hope they are buying the correct form if one of them is the winner!

Both RHS and IOSPE have them separate as FYI.
I like the red one better! If either wins, people can get either one or both (even better)

That does not mean it is the same species
Sumatra um was originally described as a variety of lobbi but later was given species status!

I didn't know that. I was just going off what IOSPE says. Camille also saw somewhere that the two Bulbophyllum species are synonyms. She has them listed as synonyms on the suitable plant list on the first page. I don't know anything about Bulbophyllums since I don't grow them.

It's just the use and understanding of the term synonym in taxonomy... Sumatranum is considered synonym of lobbi var brevifolium, but not of lobbi (kew is a good reference, as it should have the latest status - unfortunately, the website is not working today, so I cannot check for the actual status of this species now)...
Of course, this can be a problem at vendors level, as many can sell both species under the same name (most probably lobbi), as most vendors literally have no clue about taxonomy or just don't adopt the current status, as it is easier to sell with the old most known name (e.g. you will hardly find a vendor selling Cattleya coccinea or C. purpurata, as most people will actually be looking for Sophronitis or Laelia). Furthermore, there has been a lot of changes in the taxonomy of orchids in the last months/years that sometimes it is difficult for many vendors to follow them... Even the best and most serious vendors can have "mislabeled" plants...

Kavanaru thanks for the info. It does make since. So do you think we should call them synonyms for the project or seperate species? From what you are saying it sounds like they should be separate. If one wins it would be confusing on what one to buy if they stay as synonyms on the list. As of now they are listed as synonyms and people might buy either one thinking they are the same and then we wouldn't all end up with the same plant.

I think that they are 2 separate plants, and should stay separate, but my concern, as brought up by Ramon, is that vendors have them correctly identified, or else people will end up with the other one...
