Good suggestions so far!! :) I'm starting to compile the lists (unsuitable suggestions, need vendors, good suggestions...)

Let me know if you want me to look after one of those lists. I started to do up a list last night of what's been suggested so far, but no point in duplicating! :)

angraecum didieri

fragrant, cool to hot conditions, mounted, miniature and lovely flower.
Available at Oak Hill mounted $10 or $15

Oak Hill Gardens

I thought this would be a good one too. I don't know if you know this already but at Oak Hill they sometimes put a * by the price of the plant if it's blooming size. That's why they have the same plant with two different prices. The $15 one is blooming size.

It seems to be easy to acquire too. Have found it at several European vendors so far (Schwerter, Popow, Großräschener
Orchids, Elsner, and a Swedish vendor as well).

A good suggestion from a purchase point-of-view.

Angraecum didieri is easy to find here too. I also found it it Canada.

Andy's has lots of the ripiculous Laelias and a lot he doesn't post on his website. All you have to do is call him. Most are over $20 though. I love these little guys and I have quite a few but there are lots I don't have too!

Oh, darn and we have to pick ONE of these?! You guys have found so many beautiful little chids that it's going to be a nightmare to vote!

yes, I know.....only reason is because I have a paper copy of their 2012 Spring Catalog. I was able to do a quick scan on Fragrant, Miniature and then * blooming size !

They also have a lot of mounted species listed on their website, but most like it cooler.....which I suppose is OK for us in N N America !

This one looks good mounted. Also in real life - I saw it at an orchid show and the white is eye-catching.

That's why everyone uses the excuse of traveling companions for the project plant: to get some of the other orchids on the list!

And don't worry, while we have suggested a lot of plants already (over 40) many will be eliminated for not meeting cultural criteria, or not being available everywhere. Usually there's about 15 plants that go to poll.

FairyInTheFlowers 03-15-2012 06:26 PM

Maybe if there is a decent amount of plants, we can pick the top two, that way, some people might have an excuse to buy from two different vendors, with corresponding TC's!
