apart from the extra /too much sunshine it got (which also probably encited it to spike) I believe it also lacked in humidity, thus the look of the leaves. You need to get the roots humid every day but dry out too. These detest roots staying wet long; Better to water twice a day and then putting in a breeze to dry than once a day staying on the damper side.
Luckily they also regrow new roots as fast!
Rosie, I don't recall seeing your pics but WOW your plant looks like it's bursting with 'healthiness'!! Have you any follow-up pics you can post? How manyflowers on the spike?
