Paul, You may want to think about putting it in a basket. I'm thinking of doing this myself to help the plant have a more contestant moisture level. I had put mine in a grow tent I made for my warmer growers for the winter and the plant really responded to the humidity levels. My tent was between 60-80% all winter with the temps in the same ball park. I have removed my somai from its mount and potted it and it's making a great come back.

Interesting Keithrs! I may consider that. Here's some photos of mine at the moment. They may help everyone to help me better, lol... I water it twice a day and believe the yellow bottom leaves occurred due to increased light from being inside and moving outside.

In my opinion, it's looking a bit worse for the wear, lol...

I should note though that the keiki now has 3 leaves! Guess that's a positive!

It doesn't look as green as I would expect, but otherwise OK. It could just be light levels. Mine is in the greenhouse with morning and evening light but we don't have the hottest weather here!

Here's mine just now. You can see the spikes if you look closely on the last pic. It has three keikis.

Woohoo, yay for the spike!!! Is this the first one for you?

Rosie- your plant looks great!!! I somehow missed your post. How are those spikes coming along, blooming yet?

My replacement is happily growing, I'm doing much better with this one in bark mix than the previous one mounted.

Paul Congrats on your spike! You've got one!
Just my apart from the extra /too much sunshine it got (which also probably encited it to spike) I believe it also lacked in humidity, thus the look of the leaves. You need to get the roots humid every day but dry out too. These detest roots staying wet long; Better to water twice a day and then putting in a breeze to dry than once a day staying on the damper side.
Luckily they also regrow new roots as fast!

Rosie, I don't recall seeing your pics but WOW your plant looks like it's bursting with 'healthiness'!! Have you any follow-up pics you can post? How manyflowers on the spike?

I love this Genus! they don't take up alot of space!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to all who voted for this plant, as It's a really cool one to grow. I now have 7 different Gastros since this became the projet plant.
