Wow, I'm so in love with this group of plants that I want all of them, lol... So do you have a pic of what a bush of them look like?

Paul I agree with you I would like them all too!
for the moment I have bellinus & calceolaris as well as 2 japonicus & the Somai.. I said 'bushy' as my plant is full of basal keikies big & small there's 7 plants. I intend to not ever split it. here's a quick pic I just took sorry not very good quality.. Also I just looked at a pic from when it was in flower. I can't believe how much it's grown
By the way apparently there are 22 known species of this (according to the book 'understanding orchids')

Jay's orchid encyclopedia list 30 species. My favorite one being rantabunensis.

Oooh, I'm going to have to look that one up!
BTW, two progress reports on mine.
1.) The stray root that started from the flower spike is huge now, and growing like crazy. In fact, it has disappeared beneath the sphag on my mount. However, the entire flower stalk has died so I'm not entirely sure what it's doing lingering around under the sphag...
2.) However, I might have a clue, lol... I noticed two tiny blades of leaves coming up just below where the root goes into the sphag. I'm not sure if it's coming from this root or from someplace else yet, but it is for sure a very tiny baby!!!!

My somai finally bloomed! The flowers seem to be about 2/3 the size of japonicus. The markings and shape seem to be about the same. I'll get photos posted tonight.

What did you swap for?

As you can see the plant was not in the greatest shape when I got it from Andy but it is making a full recovery.... slowly but surely!!! I lost 4 buds when the weather started getting into the low 50s. Most likely because I was holding back water so the roots wouldn't rout.

well it was the kind of plant swap where everyone puts their plants in the middle and picks a number out of a hat. i was second to last. so i ended up with a noid phal. supposedly its a "big red type" idk what that means though. the funny thing is that there was another noid phal on the table when i went to pick. and that one was in blooms. cute flowers, too. but i actually thought i was last and that the blooming ph;a was already claimed... but it wasnt haha. and the sad thing is that it turns out that the blooming phal ended up with the original owner of it. AHH haha. but it was fun. and i got a red ribbon on my cattleya
