Excellent Rosie. Did you notice how long it took from spike to flower?

I first noticed the spike in mid August, so just over a couple of months.

I do notice that mine has spots on the petals/sepals and lots of other people have them with plain petals/sepals.

Makes me start to wonder if either mine is a different variety, or is actually mis-labled. Does anyone know anything about this detail?

Oh yeah, I've just put your close up next to mine and they're really different, even the spotting on the lip contrasts!

Hey guys. Well, I'm not sure what is happening with mine but thought I'd report anyway. Remember when I said that the flower stalk was sending out a root and tried to post pictures (albeit fuzzy) of it happening? Well, the flower stalk has completely died back but that root is almost 1 1/2 inches long and growing like mad!!!! I have no clue what it's feeding as the rest of the stalk is dead?! IDK, time will tell, but it is as happy as a lark. There are new roots growing like mad everywhere! That at least makes me smile, lol...

Dave I've just had a look at my pics of the development of the spikes. 1st pic taken: 27 August; 2nd one on the 7th October. It is now in full flower (last bud opened 4 days ago) Hope this helps. Look forward to seeing your blooms.

Mine is now in flower too.

Rosie have you discovered why yours has spots? I'd be interested to know where you got it from?
Mine too is of the 'plain' sepal/petal variety.
