When loading some pictures from our camera just now (of deer, ducks and trees taken on a walk today ) I found hubby had taken a few shots of my orchids 2 weeks ago and never loaded them to the PC.

Anyway, one of them was showing the developing flower buds on the Gastrochillus japonicus. They have developed even further in the last 2 weeks, but I thought I would share this pic anyway.

Looking good Rosie My new buds are developing nicely as well, but my plant still looks tiny compared to yours

Such a happy healthy orchid Rosie, mine looks like utter crap in comparison. Mounts and I just don't get along well.

Need to save money... I have nearly nothing on my account since I've had quite a few expenses lately, and now my fridge is dying so I need to get a new one, then I need to save up for furniture so I can move out of student housing and into my own place. Oh, and I'm paying back a student loan at the same time as all of this!

I'm thinking it's going to be another year before I can buy what I want, with the accessories I want. I could afford a smaller terrarium now, but then I'm going to regret not waiting to get the size I wanted. So I might do the makeshift idea I had of getting a small cheap plastic tank, sticking one of my lights over it add a cheap fan and house only the mounts in it for now.

Yep, I understand .. and well remember setting up house.. & all the expenses it incurs!
I think you should try a cheap set up for your mounts.

This summer I actually bought a terrarium (for reptiles) no extra lights nothing... same set up as my old giant plastic bottles..just put a good 8cms of Leca and keepthat moist by pouring water into it when humidity goes down. Humidity is always between 75 and 85%... also means less watering. By the way it was 189€ delivered ..Was so good Hubby bought me a second one!!

Good idea with the Leca and water, I was wondering how to get humidity up with the fan going part of the day.

If I have just watered.. I leave the doors open as I have achieved 99% humidity and that scares me as I have no fans... had these 2 months now..seem to be more than Ok and mounts love it.

Think I'm going to get this done sooner rather than later, because no matter how often I mist/dunk the Gastro's leaves are more and more dyhydrated and droopy. Some of the other mounts are no better.
