Ha ha ha, you guys!! What ever happened to patience being a virtue?
I was terribly excited but now I'm feeling very calm about it all - we've got so many bank Holidays over here (Easter, Royal Wedding, usual two at the start and end of May) it'd be a miracle if ours turned up before June anyway!

We get so few holidays over here. I more firmly believe in the European idea of work to live as opposed to the US standard of live to work, lol... Unfortunately, my bosses don't see it that way though.
Yeah, so about that patience! How do you guys grow orchids then? LOL... They must kill you everyday! (Just teasing - I'm very excited and checking everyday myself).

I hear you Paul. We get off 2 hours early today for Easter, but our EU colleagues get off today and Monday. AND get this, our China and Australia colleagues get off today and Monday for Easter.
We have to work today and Monday. What's up with that? Sorry had to vent. Back to topic.
I need to buy some chids. Bonus can't come soon enough.

I totally get where you're coming from -- what's up with the US's priorities?
I'd have to say that one of my favorite things about my husband being in the Army is that he does get all federal holidays off from work. So this weekend he's off Friday and Monday. He's out in July though, so soon that perk will be gone!

I think I heard once that we get less bank hols than some countries in Europe, but maybe one of the other Euros here can back me up on that.
And for the US folks, don't forget your 4th of July and Thanksgiving - they help even it up! (though, when my brother first moved over there 10yrs or so ago, I couldn't believe he had to go into work on Dec 26th -or Boxing day to us- and, for the job he has, that's like a 4am start. Talk about inhuman!)

I really don't understand why you guys over in the US don't even have monday off! I think that's why I may never return home to the US, I've grown too comfortable in the EU system. Americans are just a bunch of workaholics.
I love where I work in the Netherlands, there's 7-8 weeks of paid leave a year and it's mandatory to take at least 3 weeks off, 2 of them being successive weeks. If you don't, HR sends someone to forcibly send you home with orders to not show up for 2 weeks. I'm not kidding at all, a post-doc in the lab had that happen to her before christmas. How terrible to be forced to go on vacation!
I think France is one of the laziest places to be though,35 hour work week and the entire country is pretty much shut down in August because everyone (including the government) is at the beach!

...and to think I have to inform my department if I go away (and therefore won't be in e-mail contact) for a couple of days!!! *sigh*

I keep threatening to move to Europe! I think I may have to do it!! I haven't had a vacation since last August. I took a snow day in February, does that count? I was ready to go to work by 12:00, though. The American way of working is ingrained and I can't shake it. I feel guilty if I'm not at work during a weekday.
