Assuming that I've read the web-sites correctly, is that going to prove a problem for the 20 Euro max on our spending?
i have ordered single plants from Nardotto but the problem is the postage for me - I spent 8 euros on the plant and 22 on tax and p and p - so it makes sense to club together and order multiples because the postage stays the same for up to about six plants. But lets wait and see what the choice is because it may be available in the UK

The problem does not exist only for the UK, it exists for everyone as soon as you're ordering from outside your own country. 20€ is pretty much standard if you order from a different country, so I don't understand why the UK is getting singled out. In that case we need to find a grower per country, which is impossible.

I am not singling out the UK, it's a general problem I agree, but Jenny and I both live in UK, and so it would probably make sense to try and economise on postage if we can - one of us orders two or more plants and sends the extra ones on -

OK, we now have 4 people, including me, from the UK.

There is a problem quite apart from postage for UK folks ordering from Europe and that is IBAN fees for currency exchange from £ to € (which can be €20).

As I said in my first post, I planned to put in an extra restriction if there were several people from the UK. That restriction is that it needs to be available to folks paying in £ without IBAN fees. This does NOT limit it to just UK vendors and anyone can buy from anywhere they like when we come to actually get the plants. There are a few nursaries in Europe who charge by Paypal and thus eliminate any IBAN fee.

In the last project I only actually found one of the suggestion list that I would have had a problem getting on this basis, so I don't think it's going to limit our suggestion list too much.

(I'll do the checking of the plant suggestions for this, so just check for it being available in Europe if you are suggesting plants).

I think limiting to only things available from UK vendors might be too restrictive though. There are some good ones in Europe whose shipping is not too much (Popow were just €9 shipping last I saw and have some great species).

I really want others from the UK to be able to take part this time, and as there are others that are interested I think this will help.

I agree that trying to limit to those available in the UK will be too restrictive. Of couse if it is, then all the better

We can try and arrange a joint order for some folks in the UK if the plant ends up being from one of the more expensive shipping sites in Europe (not all of them are), although I'm not sure what the logistics of that would be and how much internal shipping from one person to another would be.

Most people (in the USA and everywhere) buy TC's (Travelling Companions) at the same time. We joke that the reason is that they need company during shipping but the real reason is that it makes shipping per plant less (TC's don't count in the spending limit).
