I have a few questions about the project and the plant itself. I notice on the bottom of the main forums page an event listed is project 4 photo update. How does this work? Do we post the photos in our galleries?
Also, I was wondering if you all thought this may be a spike emerging? I have lots of new roots and a new leaf, but this little bugger doesn't look like another new root to me. What do you think?
Thanks a bunch in advance!
I cannot find this event...perhaps I am not looking in the correct place...but if I look on the Calendar I am able to find it. I too would like to know if we are just posting updated pictures to the Project 4 Gallery or if there is a special place for updated photo's. I didn't realize we were updating our pictures on the 17th...but I already took pictures and posted them I set a reminder through the calender for the future dates!

Try http://www.orchidboard.com/community...rs.php?cat=695 where you would upload your photos directly to this gallery instead of your own gallery. If they are already in your gallery, just edit the photo to move it to this gallery. Hope this helps.

Pinkcat, I agree with Dave B. that it is a root. I got to looking at my spike last night and it is much skinnier. I also a root popping out just as what yours looks like, but don't be disappointed, new root growth is great and I sometimes wait months just to see new root growth on newly purchased plants!

Hi Ami

It looks like a root to me...which is not necessarily a bad thing

Any new growth makes me happy

The pictures get posted in the Project 4 Gallery...I have it set on the calendar just as a reminder...it doesn't have to be posted on that specific date

So far, mine looks just about the way it did when I got it

Mine has a new leaf (kept all the old ones) at least one new root forming and the advancing spike. Sorry, I lost the larger spike due to rough handling on part of my helper Roots are lengthening every day as well.

Oh Ross! That's a bummer! It was looking so good too. Luckily you had two!

Mine seems to be concentrating it's energy on growing it's spike. There are a couple of newish roots that still have green tips but they haven't grown a lot since I got the plant. The baby spike is about 3.5" long right now.

Ami, I agree that looks like a root to me. The spikes are really skinny; about the size of a mechanical pencil lead.

I have no idea how mine is doing, except that its still alive. I put it in a bright place, but its kinda hard to see it because things are blocking the view.

Well bummer...Oh well...
I am surprised at how much new growth I have gotten on this puppy since I got it. It has put out 1 new leaf, and probably 2 (now 3) new roots as well as the old roots growing about 1/2-1 inch a piece.
It is currently hanging from my florescent light inside on it's mount. I keep a jug of distilled water with KLN and fertilizer in it next to the orchid rack specifically for that plant. When the moss starts to feel crispy I put it in a cup full of water and let it soak for 10 minutes or so. This happens about every 2 days. I guess that if roots are coming then spikes can't be much far behind! And besides, I would rather have a healthy plant than one that is blooming to save itself. Thanks for the info on the root though.
