Hi Maria, I have an Angraecum leonis that I got last December and it was quite small. It was somewhat shriveled when I bought it, but the person who sold it to me told me to mist it daily. I have it in a 4" square wooden hanging basket and I water it good ever other day but mist it daily and I have nice new growth and it's no longer shriveled. I also keep it in bright indirect light. I go by guess with this one as I'm not that familiar with Angraecums. I was told it was a fall bloomer but I don't see any signs of that yet. Still, mine is very young.
Hope this helps. kiki-do

Default My project 4

I was wondering whether or not anyone who got their Aerangis mounted, if the mounting material smells like sand (or why would it smell like sand)? I'm thinking that it might be overwatered although, I do let it dry out in between waterings. I water it every 2 to 3 days, mist it daily and actually let the wood mount get totally wet so it stays in the water for a while anyway.

Is it normal this soon after receiving it to have 1 leaf that already died and fell off and 2 that are browning and will be falling off soon? Other than the leaves browning, the plant looks great! It actually looks very healthy.

My thought is that I'm caring a little too much for all of my orchids and should just let them tell me what they need.

What does sand smell like?

My Aerangis had a small leaf die off after I rec'd it...I think it was probably shock from the trip, and a change in conditions...yours is probably fine...

By the sounds of it, you may be right. If you are misting daily, you probably only need to water once a week. Might want to hit it with a little fungicide, just to be safe. Although, it looks like the oldest leaves are dying off. I would keep an eye on it....if it continues, slow down with the water and give it a little break. If it stops, carry on....that is my opinion. Someone here might be able to help a little more.

Default Project 4-Spike?

Hi Everyone,
I wasn't sure if this was the right forum to post this in, but...
I have a few questions about the project and the plant itself. I notice on the bottom of the main forums page an event listed is project 4 photo update. How does this work? Do we post the photos in our galleries?
Also, I was wondering if you all thought this may be a spike emerging? I have lots of new roots and a new leaf, but this little bugger doesn't look like another new root to me. What do you think?
Thanks a bunch in advance!

I have no idea. I would wait a little longer and see. But then again, my plants have only given me one spike (which reminds me, I need to post that!)

If it has white on it .. it's most likely a root -
Until you are sure, I'd call it a nubbin'
or a shock and awe spirootkeik
( I think that term is designated for phals )

It's hard to say at this point. I know I, for one, tend to watch my 'chids every day for signs of something new like a spike, but these guys can be sooooo slow!
