In a bark/sphag mix I'm watering 2 times a week, which is fine by me. When it was in straight bark, I was watering nearly every day...

Well I water either daily or every other day (sometimes goes three) but I know I can do that without worrying about overwatering.
I don't do well with ones that need plenty of water potted... because I constantly worry I'm rotting them. For me mounted and watering daily is easier because I don't have to worry.
I was under-watering this in bark as a result of worrying about over-watering

Following a discussion here I've moved mine into a brighter spot along with my Milt spectabilis from another project. Not much sun in the UK just now but I've got to try and the Milt is turning more yellow so there must be more light despite the weather.

I despair ever seeing the sun again... Non stop rain yesterday, and today is another gloomy day, though no rain. Yet. Maybe I'll sneak my Max into my greenhouse compartment at work and tuck it in among my wild mustard plants. 22C, 70% humidity, and MH lamps kick in on cloudy days. Sounds perfect.

Fingers crossed, I think I *might* have a spike! Although with my luck it's doing the same as the last false positive, which turned out to be a late growth spike coming from an unusual spot.

I think I'll take a pic of it to show you guys, because the location is a bit odd. It seems to be coming out from underneath one of the lowest bulbs, right at the surface of the medium. But since it's surrounded by roots, it's hard to tell exactly where that growth is coming from.
I'll try to remember to take my camera with me when I come to work this weekend.

So what happened Camille? did you get a flower/bud?
My plant just keeps growing and continues to look very very happy. But no sign of flowers. Whilst in Kenya last month I saw a really huge specimen planted in a very narrow deep pot. There were 5 flowers on it! I finally got to smell one
It was a true delight! Unfortunately I did not have my camera. Hopefully will see a bloom on mine this year as moving to a house wiht alot more natural light and where I used to have cattleyas that did really well (better than here) ..
