If it's just one bulb, it's kinda hard for it to do anything.

If it's 2 or more, it's worth either potting up again or mounting.

Up to you.

But if you pot it, the pot's gotta be small and make sure you get some foam peanuts, so the potting media doesn't get excessively much for the roots to handle (moisture balance is key).

I will reserve this spot right here for my project plant picture. I Had one mounted for trying out and I didn't like the way the plant was starting to look, just wasnt getting enough water. So I put it back into a pot for now. I re-potted the one I got for my project from LoS Osos and it seems to be doing fine against all odds. They sent me one in bloom, so I cut the blooms off.You cant start with a plant in bloom ya know. Not much for me to do with this one but look at it and water it. Roots are good shape and no bugs.Treated with Consan 20 twice since I had it and thank goodness I've not noticed any more fungal rot around the house...Ill get a pic tomorrow and post it here..thank you

PS the blooms dont smell to me like COCONUT,they resemble "FEET that been in shoes too long"




I put it in a hanging basket...I have extra air space.. and not just between the ears

Mine came in bloom too however msg of the flowers were dried the one that wasn't dry didn't look fresh at all. I didn't smell any coconut either, but I'm blaming that on the old blossoms

New blooms don't smell like stinky feet.

It's unmistakable that it smells like coconut oil.

or wrong species... Maxillaria houtteana looks somehow similar to tenuifolia, and apparently it is often mislabelled... however, I am not sure what is the fragrance of this species..

oh okey so its not just me that smelled the unmistakable aroma of Bromhidrosis lol...

scent can be perceptual depending on the surroundings and mood

Finally got mine! Was supposed to get them 12 days ago, but had to ask to have them sent later while I was away picking grapes (which was very fun, and involved drinking lots of wine all day long )

My Maxie is very small, it only has 7-8 bulbs on it. I got it from a great grower, but they are known to have species plants a bit on the small side. The bulbs are wrinkled but the roots are in great shape. They shipped the plants very dry, so hopefully a few good waterings will perk them up a bit.

Also got 3 TCs to travel with Maxie.
-Howeara Lava Burst, mounted with 2 spikes
-Pyschopsis papilio (which I got quite cheap compared to the prices elsewhere)
-Gastrochilus japonicus, also mounted


Behind them is the 100L aquarium that I plan to convert into a home for orchids soon.

I bet the Max will plump us soon with some water. Mine was shipped very dry (mounted) and plumped up well quite quickly

Your Gastrochilus does look about the same size as mine and I can see yours has a new leaf growing. I dunk mine in the sink every day and it's growing well, I think you will enjoy that one.

sounds good... question though... my division has 5 bulbs total.. should I divide, or plant all in one bunch in spag?
