I'll throw my :twocents: in. Since there seems to be interest in Dendrobiums for the project, why not have a general "Dendrobium Project". Have those who would like Dendrobium moniliforme do that one and those who cannot afford or would like something else participate with whatever Dendrobium they would like. While it is interesting in some respects to have all the same plant, the genus Dendrobium is quite diverse and celebrating that diversity would be even more interesting, at least to me. I personally think Dend. are nice, but there aren't really many that "stoke my fire" when wanting to get one and grow it. I saw a Dendrobium trantuanii at a show this year and really fell in love with it, but these plants are not particularly readily available or inexpensive. The other I like is Dend. unicum. I like the idea of being able to choose what I like and to participate with a plant that I would truly like to grow.

I'm not too familiar with the projects here, and this will be my first, but I agree here. It might be too hard to agree on something... And there are some that I would love to grow, and others not so much.

I actually agree with having a Dend project for reasons said in my first post on this thread I would't say No to growing another Dend.... at the same time I'm not getting very far in finding a moniliform in Europe (for now) I also like the Dinema Polybulbon

I really don't want to split up the project. It will mean less people growing the same plant. The main idea of the project is to share your experience's with the same plant.

Exactly. The idea is to get to grow a plant that we would otherwise not have a chance to, and be able to support each other in growing it.

I'm fairly new to these projects and trying to bring a different perspective, and I guess I don't understand why the "main idea" has to be to have a lot of people growing the same plant :scratchhead:. It is certainly one way of doing things, but not necessarily the only way.

I understand that, but it doesn't mean that everyone or a bunch of people HAVE TO grow the same plant. I would like to participate with a plant that I am actually interested in, and my interests don't necessarily jive with those of others. I don't mind getting a plant that I would not normally grow, but if I'm going to spend the money, then I would like it to be something I'm interested in.

I understand but I will say that after many projects most people who get them say they would never have bought it if it weren't for the project and glad they did. Please read the threads from previous project and see what they say and how they work. Might change your mind:evil: Actually what would be the purpose of growing something no one else is? We already do that without a project.
