WOW! Thanks Stephen this is the kind of info I needed! Will try.. except my growing conditions are I/W.... I'll try & stick it in the garage (where there are windows ) & see how that does.. will check on temps! Thanks again exteremely helpful!

PS: yes I leave it permenantly with that level of water0. I put sphag in it at the bottom, and the spagh is now covered in normal moss. I water the 'top' of the epiweb about twice a week and it sits in front of a SW window @ the moment.

What I heard arround the time I got mine, is that the winter rest is what triggers blooming in the spring. If the winter rest is too damp it will produce keiki's rather than blooms, it needs to be kept quite dry to produce booms.

Mine when I got it had three keiki's and one bloom and I took that to mean it had been kept a bit too moist over the winter.

Stephen good to know that late September is the time. I think I will keep mine out in the greenhouse (which is a cool growing area) when I bring the other warmer loving plants in-doors for the winter. It will get good light there but cool temps.

Not sure if I should bring it in arround the beggining of December (based on your 6-8 weeks) or if it should be left out all winter

Just to be clear, I was suggesting late September based on what I had read at a few web sites and local (Canadian) growers habits. I doubt that the exact timing is important (earlier or later based on your conditions or needs). Providing cool temps and high light is pretty much our natural climate at this time of the year in most of Canada. I agree regarding water. Very dry, but not totally bone dry seems to be the most frequent suggests that I have read. Really hope we can all see some blooms in 2011 from these plants.

Yeah, I was going to let mine cool down naturally as the weather gets colder. Not sure what exactly it will do, it's been getting pretty cool this week anyway.

Like you really hope we can get some blooms in 2011. The one little flower mine gave me last year has just wet my appitie for more.

Does Dendrobium Loddigesii normally want to dry out between waterings? Because i asume the way you grow it in a water reservoir on epiweb the roots probaby went down into the water so it's sort of water culture.

I actually decided to try this today with Maxllaria Sophronitis & Dinema polybulbon divisions put on epiweb pad in water reservoir and see if it will go like this/

All I can speak about is my experience.The plant has doubled but I have NO roots "in" the water... For now.....If i get any I MIGHT tansfer to S/H..as I already have a den.hybrid gowing well In Leca S/H.. in my growing conditions........ It all depends on the state of the roots.. and what the plant 'does'..I am watching

Well mine seems to have sat and done nothing all summer. I have one new cane about 1/4 the height of the tallest older ones and two tiny tiny look like they've only just started canes.

It's been out in my greenhouse which has been getting cold at night (mostly down to 7/8C but went down to 3C last night) and I've dried it off with just ocasional water.

We shall see if it flowers or not in the spring, but to be honest I'm expecting it to just sit their doing nothing as it's been doing all year

My one has also 'stalled'in growing now. I have a few yellow /drying out leaves. I may try putting in my garage in front of the window, when it starts to get colder it's still 8/10°C @ night here.I too have been watering less.. will see what happens...

I have one lonely bud that has appeared & it is opening.. I would probably had had more buds ? if I had put in the garage like I wrote I would....I just forgot.... & I ended up not doing it.. Oh well there's always next year. HAs anyone got some tips?
It's lost a lot of the leaves & has a couple Keikies
I will post a pic this weekend.

Great to see Nenella.

That looks happy on that Epiweb. Do you have live moss on it as well?

Right back at the beginning of this project I contemplated mounting mine. I've now finally decided I'm going to do it in the spring and use Epiweb as the mount. Sue has said it did well in tree fern and Epiweb is a good substitute for that from what I've heard.

I've not decided if I will use live moss as well. The place selling the Epiweb sells the stuff to 'seed' live moss on to it. Do you think it helps?
