okay, so when i repotted, i accidentally nicked off the top of my smallest lead. not that dormant eye, is bigger than the small lead was. thanks goodness. the leads are all growing really nicely. im just worried abiout the roots in the pics ^ above. when i got the plant, the roots were white, now they are looking rot-ish :'(
mine isnt purple, should i give it more sun? it seems, at least from the leadsd and stuff growing that it likes its home, but it doesnt have purple |
You don't want a lot of purple, but a reddish blush is a perfect indicator on most orchids of sufficient light. Solid purple might be pushing it.
If it's growing fast and well, you might keep it where it is. You might give it a week in slightly stronger light if you're worried, to see if it gives it a boost. If the roots are still FIRM, you're fine. Bark will often stain roots- it's nothing to worry about. In the future, soaking in boiling water for a few days can help leach out the tannins that stain the roots. It's not necessary though, they do no harm. From the pictures you posted, they look fine, as long as they aren't squishy. The plant may pout a while if it didn't have active root tips when you potted. |

You can check out a few pictures of it in situ (wild) on IOSPE here- IOSPE PHOTOS That site is a great resource if you're curious about any orchid specie's growing habits and habitat. |

Yay in situ pics!
Just thought I'd say... :X nicked the leaf of my new lead the other day, it ended up hanging by a thread, so I just cut it off. There was a teeny sheath inside. But the bulb is growing roots, so at least it can support the rest of the plant! However, after that happened, a lead off of THAT lead took off, as well as a lead on a backbulb that I thought I had scraped off accidentally. :cheer: |
