Here you go...
From Sunday and today. Colours don't look quite right on my laptop but might look fine on other screens. The petals and sepals are a very deep purple, but on the warm side (if that makes any sense!). Lip is rose/lavender coloured with darker veining. It's a very large flower in comparison to the plant! The lip has flattened nicely while I was away. Unfortunately the flower actually got stuck in the sheath and I had to free it - the spike should actually have been a couple of cms longer.

Way to grow Natalie, your flower is gorgeous!
I don't know what's going on with mine. They are not yellow but kind of a lime green, I did burn a couple of pbulbs. The growths that were coming from between the pbulb and leaf are just new growths. There are still a few questionable ones but I think "no blooms for 2012".

Looks like it could be the moreliana variety which I just LOVE  I think some people now consider this a separate species (Milt. moreliana) but not sure everyone agrees if it's a variety or a species.
I love it and would love it if mine flowered and it was that rather than the white one. If it ever flowers and it's white I might just have to look around for the moreliana colour one anyway  |

Thanks Rosie! Yes, this one is the moreliana variety. I bought it from Burnham Nurseries when they were in Dublin at the orchid fair - their plants are very good quality! You might have experience with them since they are UK based. Their label does say 'spectabilis var moreliana'. I believe the classification of this one is hotly debated and changes regularly. The orchid species site has it listed as a variety rather than a species, I wonder what OrchidWiz says?
The purple colour is beeaaaauuuuuutiiful. I too prefer it to the white blooms of spectabilis. |

I often buy from Burnham, I might have to ask them if they still have the moreliana variety... however it might be worth getting my existing spectabilis to flower before I buy another one  |

 I have always bloomed a particular orchid species etc before trying an other....
I can't believe it's been 3 years I have had mine and all it's done is quadruple in size!! growths and more growths all the time... well, maybe next year??
& I don't know what to do differently now as It's had more sunshine ... Anyone have any ideas? |

maybe too much N at the wrong time ? My species primary hybrid definitely likes it on the cooler side but it seems your growing conditions are ideal because you are getting all that new growth.

OOOOOps! Because of the size of the 2 mounts I only water with pure rain water....  so maybe it's the lack of fertilizer????
