That's become a common theme with the project plants. Many are disappointed when they were chosen but quickly changed there mind.

Alright guys --
I found two snails on one of my catts the other day. So i repotted the entire cattleya to only find out this morning that the culprit was in fact the miltonia??? The potato slice I put on all the plants, was covered in black mini snails without shells when I pulled it off the milt today. Now what do I do? It's in the basket with moss from Andy's... Anyone else have this problem???? grrrr.....What's up with that? Seriously, no lie, the potato was BLACK when I picked it up off the Miltonia this morning. NASTY! so i've quaranteened into the bedroom for the time being...Now what to do? It's in a basket full of some type of moss. Should I go out and buy new moss and replant? Suggestions?

Are you sure it was bugs and not oxidation? Potatoes with turn gray quickly once you cut them. I always put my cut potatoes in water till I'm ready to use them to keep them from turning gray

Yup, definitely sure. THey loooked like black slugs without the shell on. And they slowly moving all over the potato. And none of the other potatoes off the other orchids had anything moving on them

Should I replant or try the coffee technique?

This thread reminds me that I still haven't got my project plant! I know that the plant is Milt spectabilis, but is it ok to get Milt spectabilis var moreliana? I want to get mine at a dutch grower to save on shipping, and that's the one he has.

I think the var. Moreliana is the prettier of the 2!

I've heard some people consider it a seperate species.

Having said that I have no objections, Moreliana has wonderful colour flowers and I would love you to get it to flower and post pics of them here.

I though that Miltonia spectabilis and Miltonia moreliana were two different species. I know that the moreliana is very pretty pinkish/burgundy/purple.

It is a separate species now. Scientists have been separating them and sticking them back together forever, until they finally decided that they were officially different. Many growers haven't bothered changing the name. They may be different species, but they're very similar, except for the color. And I prefer the moreliana, it's prettier!
