What I liked about chosing only one plant is that it sort of 'forced' people to grow a plant they otherwise would have never chosen. Royal, your idea of chosing a slate of plants is nice. That way we could have mini intermediate plants (as usual) as well as some larger intermediate plants for those who want bigger stuff. And it would be a nice change from the usual way of doing things.

Anyways, if you do this project before the end of summer, i'll be forced to sit this one out . I will be pretty much internetless from end of next week to late august, since I'll be at my countryhouse in France most of the time, and then spending nearly 2 weeks in Spain.
Oh Camille, we will certainly miss you! But I am soooo jealous at the same time.
Yes, I have mixed emotions.....mostly jealousy, though...yup yup,

I'm actually thinking that there's no way I can miss out, lack of internet is just not a good reason to not get another orchid! So maybe I can see if Nicole can participate for me, and maybe she could send me summaries via email, so when I do connect with our stupidly slow and expensive dialup at the countryhouse I don't have to dig through a mountain of posts on OB. But first I must see with Nicole, I can't just volunteer her services to myself!

Well, I will go another step further. I will "volunteer" to hand deliver the project orchid to you in Spain. Just send me the plane ticket. A girl's gotta do what a girl's got to do!

At least now I have a reason to email you while you are in France

My husband flipped when I had to pay the charges for my bank to do the IBAN transfer as he knew id already paid for the shipping from the nursery, I am very happy with the plants though just cant afford to do that again, I would love to join in again though.
To be honest, if I had to pay GBP 30 to get the plant to my place, I too wouldn't join the project.
Shipping from NL to the UK currently is € 7.25 (with track and trace). Paypal doesn't involve extra costs. It depends were I have to order the project plant and TC's but if we can get it from the same nursery as last time, shipping to my address probably still is € 10.00 but if I order multiple plants your's could have a free ride to my place. No problem if this makes it possible for you to join the project.

To add to what Nicole says, even if we don't order from NL, if we group up and split the shipping cost from grower to a person's place, we can all save money. Usually growers charge 20€ for shipping, so that makes about 7€ each, plus the 7,50€ to get yours to the UK. You save a lot that way. Don't let shipping costs keep you out of the project, we can always figure it out! Orchid people stick together.

When Dave works out the details, I'm sure he'll post his decision and then everybody can join whichever group they want to be a part of.

Thank you so much nicole and camille, Yeah I would love to join if we can work out the shipping and paypal seems the best plan, BUT I would have to pay towards getting the item shipped to you it was mainly the £15 bank charge that got us in a pickle so if we could pay via paypal that would be much better, the seller alst time was great he offered I could pay at a show if I wanted to but I couldnt make it as the show was too far away from me and he did say he was hoping to get paypal set up soon. Just after getting bitten with the last one I have to be more careful this time! Dont want a mad husband again LOL

Last time Camille and I hunted together for the project plant. If you like to join, contact me and mabye I can order your plant too and ship it to the UK (you can use Paypal to pay me). There must be a way to join if you want to. Last time we found the project plant in NL which kept basic shipping costs low.

Nicole
If we do multiple project plants simultaneously than the chances of you finding at least one of them goes up considerably. If we join the project and vote our choice by merely purchasing an orchid from the agreed upon list, that makes it easier for folks with limited availability. If they can't find 1 or 2, then they're not excluded by default if they can just buy 3 locally.

To me it just makes sense to broaden the project, instead of shrinking the limit of participants. Any way that includes the most people is what I'd vote for.

I agree that broadening the project would be the way to go...but...

knowing personally how much work there is involved in organizing the projects, much thought needs to be given to what Dave wants to do...whatever he comes up with is what I would go for.
