very cool! Mine always abruptly stops blooming in December - might have buds but they wither - too cool in my house and/or not enough light where I have been growing it I guess. Gonna try a sunnier window in winter.

I repotted a few months ago, and removed and potted the six keikis growing on it - so now I have seven little Haraellas

Very nice news Sonya! Nice to know it is doing well, I have read they bloom themselves to death so, I think your plants 'clever' and naturally stops flowering in winter!

I'd love to see how you have repotted your plant and the keikies! Post pics if you can

Yeah, I don't think I will have that problem of 'blooming to death' - I've been growing in quite low light (and in winter probably cooler temps than it likes) and it blooms, but not as heavily as some others I have seen.

Alrighty - here are pix of my little Haraella family
(apparently I really need to clean the foliage! lots of mineral build up on them - because they are so small, foliage gets splashed alot during watering)



1) group shot (2 pots have more than 1 keiki in them)

2) parent, looking much smaller after having removed the keikis and potting it lower

3) the two oldest keikis - both over 2 years old and have bloomed 2 years on the parent, but I don't know if they are big enough on their own to bloom - time will tell I guess

4) next largest keiki - I think this one bloomed last year on the parent, but I'm not positive

5) the three smallest keikis, tho they seem to have grown a fair amount since I potted them


some of these keikis grew directly from the parent, a few developed on spikes- I know the first two grew directly on the parent

That is so neat to have gotten so many extra plants! I am impressed. I have to look more carefully at mine.

Both of mine have not bloomed in a few months. One tried to but it aborted before it was full-sized. There has not been much activity as of yet.

thanks everyone they do look happier since everyone got potted (repotted for the parent) - keiki roots of course growing into the air, and as the parent grew, roots coming from higher on the plant - air can be rather dry here in summer ... foliage on parent and keikis both were looking dehydrated

We'll see if any keikis are big enough to bloom on their own yet. I guess once they seem to be established decently I'll probably look for homes for a few

Paul - mine doesn't seem to get going til summer (spikes in summer, then blooms maybe late summer - winter) Since I have a few of these now, I might see how they do in a bit brighter light (I've been growing in a north facing window) - maybe I can get a bit extra blooming time out it.

I think mine decided it needed a rest. It blasted the spike and decided to throw out a new leaf instead. I swear it is just going to grow and bloom until it dies.

I gave it a feeding today. I bet it will bloom all summer now. LOL.

I have some sad news... my Haraella got stem rot, the leaves started falling off and there is one left with a new leaf growing. It had 2 spikes on it but I cut them off to give it an other chance.. it has quite a few roots which you can't really see in this photo. :
I can get it to keep on growing...

Stem rot is never good, I hope it recovers... That's what my previous 3 plants have died from, the latest only 3 days after getting it. So far the new one is healthy.
