Lorraine—They can put out new spikes, but also can rebloom off the same spike. Mine has done both.
Sara—my condolences. Always feels awful, I know. But I second what Terri says...we've all killed orchids before.

Thanks Yvan & RSS, I keep check my little 'Retro Gal' and the spike with bloom seems to be growing and so is the second spike. This is the cutest little chid!
Sara, sorry about your loss. I lost some really favorites, actually I didn't do it..they commited chid-a-cide I would not give up. I would get another one and start again! I wish I had gotten 2 when I ordered just to do a comparison.

Thanks for the support guys.
I might have to have another go at it. I noticed that Oak Hill has a special on it. I am thinking of getting another one.
Everyone else is enjoying theirs so much!!

You definitely should
Cindy opened her first bloom a few days ago - and there is another bud on that spike, and another spike has started, a long with new roots and foliage!

I just wanted to share that I have two of these cuties, one I bought from Andy's Orchids a couple of years ago. It's been a good constant grower and bloomer, but being mounted requires lots of watering. I find they like to stay moist! Then I got the project plant from Oakhill....the leaves were bigger and thicker, and I don't mean mature wise, just in general. Then the one from Oakhill bloomed....it has more yellow to it's color and the blooms are bigger....and it smells like lemon! i try not to have two of the same 'chid due to space issues, but this one is well worth it!

...And mine is still creeping along... Original spike has frozen in place, and I think the new one is now going backwards, like Benjamin Button. Good thing I named it Haraellephant: slow and ponderous. Will it bloom in my lifetime? Will I need to bequeath it to someone in my will?

But seriously...maybe it wants higher light than it's getting? I think that's the most confusing thing with this one—that it really wants much higher light than it seems. Either that or more water?

I think it would be the water, then....because I moved mine into the terrarium, which is much less light than outside. It had just started the spike when I moved it, and it has continued to grow buds, which will open any day.....no blast in the lowered light. So I'm guessing it's the humidity that it likes.

Well, a month ago I moved it up so it's about a foot away from four high-output T5 bulbs. It gets watered every day, and is basically in the blast zone of the humidifier. All plants don't develop equally, so I suspect maybe I just got a slow one...
