Well there is still the late contest Roland. If you can get yours to spike and bloom after Sept. 1 These 2 seedlings will be available again. The other 2 seedling are pretty nice too! Good Luck.

Cindharealla's new nubby is indeed looking like a root - tho a few days ago I also noticed a "bulge" inbetween leaves - and looks today as tho something is emerging there - spike maybe?

This is where the misunderstanding came in. When I first started this contest, I was under the impression that these don't flower till the Fall and winter. So the rule I put in place was if your plant developed a spike after you received it you are in the running. Thinking that they would not flower this soon. I didn't think its fair to change the rules I made, so I'm giving a prize to the first two who spike and flower before Sept. 1 and after. You of course don't have to provide a second prize and can award them when you want.

Well, I'm on the fence on this one. I didn't realize that you had said that before I chimed in about helping with the prizes. I am a firm believer that a 4-6 week minimum ownership is necessary to claim a bloom, so to speak. While I don't want to upset anyone, I also feel that giving the first prize to anything less than those requirements kind of takes away from the first two people to actually meet those requirements. However, since these requirements weren't specifically stated, and I chimed in on Dave's requirements.....here's what I'm going to do: Shadytrake (please don't take any offense to my being on the fence about this), I will send you your choice of the two that I am offering, the first two people that bloom after Sept. 1 will receive both. This way, nobody gets cheated over technicalities. If this sounds good, then Shadytrake please PM me with your address and choice of plant. Your choices are: Rsc. Gerald Miller (Blc. Ablaze Medal 'U-Emporer' x L. purpurata var carnea), which will end up as a medium sized Cattleya.....or Epi. schomburgkii x Bl. Richard Mueller, which is going to be a large (30"-40") reed stemmed Epi-like plant. Hope this keeps everyone happy.

I'm not sure if I will get any more blooms this year because.....wait for it....I couldn't resist.....

I did a selfing this am on it.

The pollen was just calling out to me and I did get a small citrus scent.

So a twist to my project...we'll have to see if I can get the plant to survive AND get a seed pod.

I wonder if Haraellas will put out additional spikes once blooms have been pollinated.

My plant is just sitting on the piece of driftwood and I added the live sphagnum moss around it, other than that there is no other medium. Just be prepared to trim the moss every few weeks or it will cover your plant!

How do you fert. and keep the moss alive? I understood moss can't take a lot of fertilizer?

I use the same concentration of fertilizer with the live mosses as the orchids. About 10 drops of 8-7-6 per 6 liters of water, once a week. So far no issues.

Thank you RSS but that leaves me with another question? What kind of water do you use for the orchids? Rain water? Tap water? Something else?
I ask this because water also as minerals dissolved. My tap water only is for instance about 300 ppm. What've read moss can't survive that, but I didn't try that. I should run a test, as I have live moss to experiment with.
I would like to use my moss for orchids. That is why a keep asking questions :-) I hope you don't mind.
