No need to be apologetic, Dave. You rock for sweetening the project with your generosity. Look how much attention project 9 is getting. You know what they say, "any publicity is good publicity."

I'm sorry for partially being responsble for this entire bud/spike arguement. I'll stay out of it now, I'm too good at sticking my foot in things, and I 'm not even part of this 'contest'.

From my experiences with this plant, once it starts blooming good luck getting it to stop. So as for this plant spiked whenever and is it there or my flower....well that may not work so well with this plant.

I completely unpotted mine and trimmed the roots and leaves to my liking. Mounted it in completely different medium and 2-3 weeks later it spiked. Was this my spike or not, well I don't really care, its a flower . And from past experiences, it will continue to bloom for many many many months until you have a mister malfunction and rot your crown. Then it will slowly die with nothing you can do! Oh wait that already happened. I got side tracked there. So the 3rd or 6th spike is due to my growing conditions?

I'm not sure traditional rules will work with "everblooming" plants. Check the 2 threads in the Miniature Show and Tell section, both are reporting the same thing, they just bloom and bloom and bloom then sometimes die.

What I'm really hoping to figure out from this project is.....do these guys all smell or some smell or none smell. The information online is inconsistant, and with 50+ plants we should have a shot as getting an answer.

That's what happened with my first Haraella!
It did really good for almost 3 years and then with no changes to it's care or environment whatsoever...ppfffttt! Gone!

As for smell, I get a different answer from every person who blooms this lil guy

You? I thought I was the one that actually started this? lol

I would apologize but Susanne says that is not allowed. (grin)

Thumbs up YAY!

YAY!!!...you know I was just going for "bragging rights" anyway.

Well, i can't wait for it to bloom. I see it peeking out today.

And I have been researching to possibly try to pollinate it or use it to pollinate another chid that is blooming.

Talk about a curve ball! It seems to be in the same subfamily as Vandas.

SUBFAMILY Epidendroideae, TRIBE Vandeae, SUBTRIBE Aeridinae.

First, Susanne, thank you very much for the link! That helped confirm my understanding.

Second, wasn't the "discussion" (about what would "win" and what wouldn't) winding down until I jumped in with questions? I'm afraid I may have reignited the flames! However, as apologizing is taboo, I will just say . . . ooooops!

I am now in the process of repeating to myself (at least 20 times) "I cannot get another orchid until I've made the ones I have happy," "I cannot get another orchid . . ."

But !!!
