The size of this one scares me, if we end up going with a 12-18" plant I'll have to drop out. It just won't fit into my growing space. So that would be one less plant to try and find.
There is always the next project.

I'm going to try to answer all the recent posts here:
The Den tetragonum could eventually get to be a larger plant
Orkie, I didn't try Piping Rock but if you feel like contacting them and asking what quantities they have, that would be a huge help.
Shannen...you're KILLING me with that gorgeous plant and pot of yours!
Roly, thank you very much for contacting H&R...I've sent out an email to Andy's, Oak Hill and J&L to see how many any of them have
I didn't contact SBOE again regarding this...they do have 15 in stock but we're NOT paying $65.00 for any plant!
If we have to move on to the Bulb dearei, we're going to run into the same situation so be prepared
Let's see what the day brings

I wouldn't be worried too much about the size of the Den. tetragonum. I have had my plant for over two years, and its longest cane is about 7.5 inches (it now has 7 canes total and takes a space about 10 inches by 10 inches square). I have seen photos of larger plants, but if I remember correctly, they were taken in the plants native habitat in Australia. I believe the sizes Ramón quoted given by Lavarack are for wild growing plant, also. Though I believe Ramón has seen quite large plants growing in nurseries - how large were those, Ramón? How many canes did the plants have?

Shannan,
The plants I have seen at different shows and Nurseries were in the range 12" - 20": few (3 - 5)smaller PBs and 2 - 4 large ones... (approximate numbers of PBs as I was not counting them ), however most of them were not larger than... let's say... 16"

oK .. I don't know if this is a good thing to say but here goes .. since there some to be fans of bulbo deari ( I being one) why not do a double .. Those who want bulbo go for it and those that want the dendro .. go for it ...
There won't be a problem with amount since the numbers won't be as highly expected with just one orchid choice ...
ok I'll go back to my corner now ...

After seeing how the dendro likes to droop or hang, I think I am leaning more towards the bulbo...I only have room for mini's or 'chids that will grow more upright or stay in their own bubble of space...lol. But don't get me wrong, I love that dendrobioum, especially after Shannen shared her pictures!

Dorothy, I think that is a fantastic idea - especially as we have enough people to make growing two different plants viable and still a fun group exercise.
Sue, that may also help to alleviate the issues with getting the number of plants necessary in the US?
I'd personally love to be able to grow the Bulb. dearei - but I know I won't be able to provide the temperatures that it likes/needs to do well. So, I'm happy sticking with getting another Den. tetragonum.

I'm willing to go in any direction that makes this easier to accomplish...
I have both of them so it doesn't matter to me :
How does everybody else feel about it?
I will send out a mass PM to all participants, explaining the new ideas we're floating around here.
There will be a ONE-DAY time frame for responding with your preference.
It would be a way to shake things up a bit
